Daily TV Guide

Friday 12 June 2026. The World Cup is here. Canada v Bosnia & Herzegovina kicks off the opening weekend on BBC One at 7pm — the co-hosts go first, it’s free, and summer’s properly started. Ponies is back on Sky Atlantic for a double bill, Gardeners’ World is on BBC Two at 8pm, and Celebrity Gogglebox fills Channel 4’s 9pm slot. And yes, before you ask: EastEnders isn’t on tonight.

Quick Picks: Tonight’s Best

  • FIFA World Cup 2026: Canada v Bosnia & Herzegovina ⭐ BBC One, 7pm. Opening weekend. Free on the BBC.
  • Ponies Sky Atlantic, 9pm. Emilia Clarke undercover in Moscow. Harriet Walter scene-stealing throughout.
  • Celebrity Gogglebox Channel 4, 9pm. Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness join Rylan and Linda.
  • Gardeners’ World BBC Two, 8pm. Monty Don versus June pests.
  • Hidden Treasures of the National Trust BBC Two, 9pm. Quarry Bank Mill — and a child’s indenture contract.
  • American Music Night BBC Four, 9:05pm. Ray Charles, then Tina Turner.

Sport

Tennis: Queen’s (HSBC Championships) – BBC Two, 1pm

Day five of the women’s grass-court event at Queen’s Club. Wimbledon warm-up season, free on the BBC. iPlayer.

Cricket: Women’s T20 World Cup – England v Sri Lanka – Sky Sports Main Event, 5:30pm

England open their Women’s T20 World Cup at Edgbaston. Tournament opener on home soil. Subscription required.

Early Evening

Bradley & Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad – ITV1, 7:30pm (LAST IN SERIES)

The Walsh boys close out their Australian trip with the Great Barrier Reef and a large crocodile at close range. Bradley looks alarmed; Barney, less so. A decent send-off for a likeable series. ITVX.

Prime Time

FIFA World Cup 2026: Canada v Bosnia & Herzegovina ⭐ – BBC One, 7pm (kick-off 8pm)

Here we go. The tournament finally arrives, and the co-hosts get the honour of going first. Canada welcome Bosnia & Herzegovina to Toronto — an opening home game at a full stadium has a way of levelling things out, regardless of the form book.

Coverage starts at 7pm for the build-up, kick-off at 8pm (UK time — it’s mid-afternoon in Toronto). If you’re staying up, USA v Paraguay is on BBC One from 1:30am. Both free, both on iPlayer. A good summer for licence-fee payers.

Gardeners’ World – BBC Two, 8pm

Monty Don tackles pests and diseases in the greenhouse — the necessary side of June. Arit Anderson visits a striking garden in Greater Manchester, Joe Swift is in Dorset and Essex. Reliable. BBC iPlayer.

Emmerdale – ITV1, 8pm

Jai’s away in Canada, so son Archie runs a scam: AI voice-cloning software convinces business partner Caleb he’s getting a genuine call from “daughter” Steph pleading for £5,000. She’s actually in Thailand. A very 2026 soap plot. ITVX.

Hunting the Debt Predators – Channel 4, 8pm (Dispatches)

Ellie Flynn investigates illegal money lenders and the people left with no legitimate alternative. Real harm, real people. The kind of Dispatches that earns its slot. Channel 4 streaming.

Hidden Treasures of the National Trust – BBC Two, 9pm

One of the series’ stronger episodes. Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire pioneered cotton spinning, but it’s the indenture contract of child worker Thomas Payne that stays with you — plain legal language that spells out what childhood looked like for the poor. The “rock houses” carved near Stourbridge are a stranger find to close on. BBC iPlayer.

Celebrity Gogglebox – Channel 4, 9pm

Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness join the sofas this week — both talkers, which Gogglebox rewards. Rylan and his mum Linda are back, along with Ashley Banjo and Perri Kiely. Warm, easy, does the job. Channel 4 streaming.

Ponies – Sky Atlantic, 9pm (double bill, also 10pm)

Emilia Clarke is very good here — funny and controlled, playing someone permanently one wrong word from disaster. Bea goes undercover in Moscow tonight; Harriet Walter is scene-stealing as grandmother Manya; Twila’s hotel blackmail subplot is daft in the best way. The double bill suits it: the second episode shifts gear properly. Full series on Now.

Late Night

The Alien Autopsy Scandal – Sky Documentaries, 9pm (NEW SERIES)

The 1995 “alien autopsy” film fooled a lot of people for a surprisingly long time. Bafta-winning director John Dower follows the hoaxers, including artist John Humphreys. Promising opener. Now.

American Music Night – BBC Four, from 9:05pm

Ray Charles in a 1986 Omnibus profile, then Tina Turner at the BBC at 10:15pm, then When Tina Turner Came to Britain at 11:15pm. BBC Four on fine form. iPlayer.
