Thursday’s schedule opens overnight with Mysteries From Above at midnight, taking in cliff dwellings in the Peruvian Andes and a sacred monolith in Wyoming, then two editions of Close Encounters at 1am and 1:30am. Killer Britain with Dermot Murnaghan brings a new case at 2am, the Harry Jarvis file, Junk & Disorderly gets an early outing at 3am with a trip to an agricultural auction, and three consecutive editions of Hardcore Pawn then carry the small hours through to 5am, when Dickinson’s Real Deal takes over.

Breakfast pairs two editions of Pawn Stars with two of Storage Wars Canada and two of Storage Hunters. Eight further editions of Hardcore Pawn then run from 9:20am to 1:05pm, drawn from earlier in the same series as the overnight showings — eleven Hardcore Pawn slots across the day in total. This is the strand worth setting a reminder for, and it rewards anyone who has already worked through the more familiar documentaries elsewhere. Hitler’s Engineers and U-Boat Wargamers go after corners of the Second World War that don’t get the rotation the D-Day landings and the Battle of Britain do, and both are made with more care than the channel’s reputation would lead you to expect.

The military history slot is the reason to keep the channel in mind at all: Hitler’s Engineers would hold its own two hundred channel numbers lower down. The unexplained material is lighter, fine as entertainment provided you don’t go to it for evidence. The pawn shops and storage lockers ask nothing of you, which some evenings is the whole appeal.
