EntertainmentBangers & Cash: Restoring Classics
EntertainmentYesterday is UKTV’s history and heritage channel: archive documentaries, military history, natural history and, these days, a good deal of classic motoring. BBC Studios has owned it outright, via UKTV, since 2019, and it’s free to watch with no subscription required. Tonight, Tuesday 14 July 2026, Antiques Roadshow returns to Manchester Town Hall at 6pm, followed by Planet Earth III at 7pm, where Attenborough’s cameras head for the world’s coastlines. The Mathewson family then take over for three straight hours of Bangers & Cash from 8pm, before Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics closes the night at 11pm. Channel numbers are in the table further down.

What’s on Yesterday today
The small hours open with a Bangers & Cash repeat at midnight, then Find It, Fix It, Flog It at 1am and a Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes double from 2am, before Teleshopping fills the gap from 3am until the schedule proper resumes.
Daytime opens with a double bill of Abandoned Engineering from 6:10am, the show that spends its runtime picking over derelict factories and failed construction projects, followed by two more editions of Bangers & Cash from 8am. Battle Honours and The Great War In Numbers each get an hour either side of 10am and 11am.
Antiques Roadshow holds the lunchtime slot with back-to-back editions at noon and 1pm, then it’s Bangers & Cash again from 2pm before Battle Honours and The Great War In Numbers repeat their earlier hours at 4pm and 5pm. Antiques Roadshow returns at 6pm to open the evening proper.
Yesterday Tonight — Primetime and the Evening Schedule
Here’s the Yesterday primetime line-up for tonight, Tuesday 14 July 2026.
Antiques Roadshow — Yesterday, 6pm
Fiona Bruce and the team are back at Manchester Town Hall for a second helping (series 34, episode 24), with a Lowry picture and a five-figure plate among tonight’s finds. It’s a repeat of the lunchtime edition, so anyone who caught it at midday already knows the headline valuations.
Planet Earth III — Yesterday, 7pm
David Attenborough opens the 2023 series with Coasts (series 3, episode 1), following Cape fur seals fending off great white sharks off South Africa and tracking the Arctic’s summer meltwater rush. It’s a step up in scale from the channel’s usual afternoon documentaries, and one of the stronger nature slots Yesterday runs all week.
Bangers & Cash — Yesterday, 8pm
Derek Mathewson’s Tesla Model X and a showman’s caravan headline the 8pm sale (series 13, episode 6), the first of three consecutive hours of the family auction house tonight.
Bangers & Cash — Yesterday, 9pm
An Austin A30 Seven and a Hillman Imp go under the hammer at 9pm (series 13, episode 7), continuing the same night’s sale from the top of the schedule.
Bangers & Cash — Yesterday, 10pm
The 10pm hour rolls back to an earlier sale (series 10, episode 15), rounding off the third straight Bangers & Cash of the evening.
Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics — Yesterday, 11pm
Restoring Classics closes the night with its first episode, following a full rebuild of a battered Astra from stripped shell to showroom finish.
What kind of shows are on Yesterday
Classic motoring and Bangers & Cash
The single biggest growth area on Yesterday over the last few years has been motoring, built almost entirely around the Mathewson family and Bangers & Cash. Spin-offs and companion shows, Flipping Bangers, Find It, Fix It, Flog It, have followed, giving the channel a recognisable house style: low-key, character-driven, more interested in the people than the paintwork.
Military and social history
Archive war documentaries remain Yesterday’s founding identity. The World at War anchors a wider run of conflict and social history programming that draws on decades of British broadcasting archive, giving the channel a depth of material no rival history channel can easily match.
Natural history and engineering
Yesterday supplements its historical programming with natural history, A Perfect Planet being the current headline title, and engineering-focused strands like Abandoned Engineering and Secrets of the London Underground, which sit somewhere between history and infrastructure documentary. It’s a broader mix than the channel’s name suggests.
How to watch Yesterday
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find Yesterday across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 27 |
| Yesterday +1 on Freeview | 26 |
| Sky | 155 |
| Virgin Media | 129 |
| Freesat | 155 |
Yesterday is free on all of the above platforms, with no subscription required. Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat channel numbers can vary slightly by region and box, so your on-screen guide is the definitive source if these don’t match.
Streaming online
Yesterday streams live and free on u.co.uk and via the U app on smart TVs, iOS, Android and most streaming boxes. U is UKTV’s streaming service, formerly known as UKTV Play, and it’s free to sign up for. Most Yesterday shows are also available to catch up on demand once they’ve broadcast, though older archive series can come and go from the library.
Yesterday +1 and sister channels
Yesterday +1 runs the main schedule exactly an hour behind, on Freeview channel 26. Miss the start of a Bangers & Cash episode on the main channel and +1 lets you pick it up from close to the beginning an hour later instead.
Yesterday sits within the wider UKTV stable alongside Dave, Drama, Really and Alibi. If you enjoy Yesterday’s history and documentary output, Dave carries more panel shows and sitcoms, while Really leans towards true crime and paranormal programming.

Verdict
Yesterday has quietly become one of the better-value channels on Freeview. The archive documentary strand it built its name on, The World at War chief among them, is still there and still worth your time, but it’s the Bangers & Cash motoring empire that now does the heavy lifting for ratings, and deservedly so.
Tonight leans harder on motoring than most: Planet Earth III’s Coasts is the one appointment-viewing hour, sitting between an Antiques Roadshow repeat and three back-to-back Bangers & Cash sales that run through to Restoring Classics at 11pm. Attenborough fans should set a reminder for 7pm; everyone else gets a solid run of familiar Mathewson-family car auctions to see out the evening.
