Aussie Gold Hunters — DMAX, 6pm
The last of a three-episode run that began at 4pm. In this one a prospector turns up an unusually large nugget that changes the shape of his season, while the Gold Gypsies take a battering from the worst storm the area has seen in decades. Series 3, episode 6.
Hoarding: Buried Alive — DMAX, 7pm and 8pm
Two back-to-back episodes of the clutter-clearance series, with the episode numbers in the feed disagreeing with each other, so we have left them off. The 7pm edition visits a mother and daughter whose house is so full that it has become a safety risk, partly because of the daughter’s height. At 8pm a man living with post-traumatic stress after a school shooting faces a home that his family fears is harming him. This is the heaviest stretch of the night, and it is as much about the people as the junk.
Extinct Or Alive — DMAX, 9pm
Wildlife biologist Forrest Gallante is on the trail of the Asian unicorn, better known as the saola, a mountain animal that has hardly ever been photographed. Series 2, episode 7. After two hours indoors it is a change of scenery.
Expedition X — DMAX, 10pm
Phil and Heather go underground, down into a cave system that Mayan tradition treated as the home of spirits. Part monster-hunt, part cave-diving travelogue.
Expedition Bigfoot — DMAX, 11pm
The Bigfoot search team is back in the woods. Mireya and Biko follow structures made from trees towards a water source, Bryce looks again at a footprint, and Russell’s bushcraft trap finally gets a result. Series 6, episode 6.

Gold, opals and digging for a payday
Prospecting is the spine of the evening. Aussie Gold Hunters, Outback Opal Hunters and Gem Hunters Down Under all follow crews who bet a season’s money on a patch of ground, with the same cycle of equipment failure, bad weather and the odd lucky strike. It is cheap to repeat and easy to drop into halfway through.
Survival and building from scratch
Naked and Afraid, Building Off the Grid and Alaska: Homestead Rescue are about people far from help. Some are testing themselves with next to nothing, others are putting up a cabin or rescuing a failing homestead. It is the most varied part of the schedule, even if the formats are tightly drilled.
Salvage, ships and old mysteries
The rest is a mixed bag. Salvage Dawgs strips old buildings for reusable parts, Deadliest Catch follows the Bering Sea crab fleet, and Expedition Unknown, Expedition X and Mysteries of the Missing go after lost places, haunted towns and vanished ships.
