What’s on STV today

Saturday starts with Shop on TV from 12:45am and Unwind with STV at 5:10am. Mornings are cookery and gardening: James Martin’s Islands to Highlands at 6am, Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh at 7:30am and James Martin’s Saturday Morning from 9:30am.

The clearest local difference in the daytime is racing. STV Racing is live from Cheltenham at 12:45pm and runs until about 4pm, with Lingo at 4pm and Tipping Point: Lucky Stars at 5pm after it. STV Weather Central appears as a one-minute slot at 12:44pm and again at 10:44pm.

STV tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

Here’s the STV primetime line-up for tonight, Saturday 24 October 2026.

ITV News and Weather — STV, 6pm

A quarter-hour network bulletin to open the evening.

STV News; Weather — STV, 6:15pm

This is the part of the night that is STV’s own: a Scottish news bulletin with local weather, in the slot where ITV1 elsewhere carries its London news.

The Chase Celebrity Special — STV, 6:30pm

Bradley Walsh hosts the celebrity edition of the quiz, with famous contestants taking on the Chasers. Same programme, same time as the rest of the ITV network.

Win Win — STV, 7:30pm

A Postcode Lottery game show, a routine weekly edition and a light lead-in to the main event.

The Voice UK — STV, 8:35pm

The night’s big show, running for around two hours. Singers perform for a panel of coaches in the singing contest. Nothing about it differs from ITV1; only the news either side is Scottish.

ITV News and Weather — STV, 10:35pm

The network late bulletin, followed by a one-minute STV Weather Central at 10:44pm.

Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening — STV, 10:45pm

A late comedy hour fronted by Romesh Ranganathan, the same network show as on ITV1.

English Football League Highlights — STV, 11:45pm

A late round-up of the day’s Championship, League One and League Two matches, running into the small hours.

What STV is and how it differs from ITV1

STV is the Channel 3 licence holder for central and north Scotland, run by STV Group plc. It is not owned by ITV, but it carries the ITV network schedule, which is why so much of the day looks familiar: Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Good Morning Britain, This Morning, The Chase and ITV News at Ten all appear.

The differences are in the gaps. STV News at Six is its own bulletin, there are shorter STV News and weather slots through the day, and Scotland Tonight takes the late current affairs slot. There is also daytime of its own, such as Deal or No Deal and Lingo, plus STV Racing in the schedule at times. It runs 24 hours a day, with Shop on TV in the small hours.

In the Borders the picture is different. Freeview 3 there is ITV1 Border, so STV is not the channel 3 service for those viewers.

For ITV1 in the rest of the UK, see the ITV1 guide. Other services aimed at the nations include BBC Alba (Freeview 7, Scotland only) and, in Wales, S4C.

STV News changes

STV News has been through a shake-up. In September 2025 the company proposed merging its north and central news, and Ofcom approved a compromise around 1 June 2026. STV News at Six is now roughly 70% shared across Scotland and 30% separate for the north. The Dundee and Edinburgh opt-outs closed, so four regional versions became two, and Aberdeen still presents the north’s output.

The earlier history is shorter. STV2, the old Scottish-only second channel, closed on 30 June 2018 and was replaced by That’s TV Scotland.

What’s on TV tonight in Scotland

If you want the full picture for a Scottish evening rather than STV alone, start with the UK-wide listings. For the BBC side, the BBC One guide covers the main channel, while BBC Alba has its own Gaelic schedule on Freeview 7. Football fans can check Scotland football on TV.

How to watch STV live

Channel numbers

Here is where to find STV on the main platforms that carry it:

Platform Channel
Freeview (Scotland, not the Borders) 3
Freeview HD 103
STV+1 on Freeview (central and north Scotland) 35
Sky (central and north Scotland) 103
Freesat 103

Dundee and Edinburgh viewers on Freesat need channel 111 for HD. Numbers can vary by region, so check your on-screen guide if these do not match. The wider line-up is in the Freeview channel guide and the Freesat guide.

STV Player: live TV and on demand

STV Player is the channel’s streaming service and is free with adverts. On-demand programmes can be watched anywhere in the UK, but the live channels, STV and STV+1, are only available in Scotland. Outside Scotland, STV points people to ITVX for network shows.

STV Player+ removes the adverts from on-demand programmes (live TV still carries ads) and costs £3.99 a month or £39.99 a year. Prices and terms can change, so check the app before signing up.

STV+1

STV+1 repeats the main channel an hour later and is on Freeview 35 in central and north Scotland. It is handy if you miss the start of a big network show or the 6pm news. Compare it with the wider Freeview +1 channels list.

TV Radar Team is the byline on TV Radar's automatically generated TV guides — covering BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and beyond. Each evening's schedule is built from the published listings (titles, start times, run lengths and episode numbers) and checked against our listings data before publication, so you can decide in two minutes what to record and what to skip. These guides are generated automatically rather than written by hand; a human editor spot-checks them, but not every page is read before it goes live. Based in London, updated every day.
