What’s on S4C today

Teleshopping runs at midnight and the channel is off air from 1am until 6am. Saturday morning belongs to children: the Cyw preschool shows run from 6am to 8am, then Stwnsh Sadwrn Byw, a live Saturday show for older children, fills 8am to 10am.

Clwb Rygbi URC: Gweilch v Dreigiau — S4C, 6:45pm

The big slot of the night. Ospreys host the Dragons in the United Rugby Championship at St Helen’s in Swansea, with a 7pm kick-off, so the programme opens with a quarter of an hour of build-up. The slot is booked until about 9:10pm.

Seren Jones: Yn Fyw yn y Dwr — S4C, 9:10pm

Seren Jones, a journalist who swam competitively, looks into drowning among Black and Asian communities and the gap in who takes to the water. One documentary hour, fronted by her.

Am Dro — S4C, 10:10pm

A walking series in which four guides each show off a favourite route. This edition takes in a riverside path from Cardigan to Gwbert and a hunt for a hidden waterfall near Abergynolwyn (series 10, episode 4).

Gwladfa: Gwilym Bowen Rhys — S4C, 11:15pm

Musician Gwilym Bowen Rhys spends a day in Gaiman and Dolavon, two towns in Argentina’s Welsh-speaking Patagonia (series 1, episode 2). The same series has another episode at 10:15am.

News and daily magazines

Newyddion S4C is the spine of the schedule, with bulletins through the afternoon and evening. Heno is the nightly magazine show, and Prynhawn Da fills the afternoon. Together they give the channel a live, local feel that most national channels lack.

Soap, quiz and drama

Pobol y Cwm is the long-running soap, with a Sunday omnibus, though it is not in tonight’s schedule. Rownd a Rownd is the other soap. Quizzes such as Y Deis and drama such as Cleddau fill the rest of the evening.
