The morning is built the way CBeebies mornings usually are: once the half-hour “This Is CBeebies” ident clears at 6am, it’s five- and ten-minute blocks stacked one after another, so a child can drift off and come back without missing a plot. Bluey gets five outings today: Space pairs with Road Trip at 7:20am and 7:30am, Teasing runs solo at 11:15am, then Space and Road Trip repeat at 4:35pm and 4:45pm.

Two episodes are genuinely new: What’s in Your Plant Pot? at 10:45am, where birdwatcher George shows the Fact Pack how moss helps wildlife, and Do Not Watch This Show at 4:20pm, in which Wizz loses a bike and watches it vanish into thin air. Everything else is a repeat, including two runs of Something Special at 9:45am and 1:45pm and four separate Hey Duggee slots. Zog does the same trick as Bluey, airing at 8:35am and again at 4:50pm.

Ke Huy Quan reads tonight, taking on Brian the Lion Who Learned, a story about a lion who turns out to be mightier and bitier than everyone around him expects. The Oscar winner joins a run of guest readers that has included Tom Hardy and Harry Styles.

CBeebies signs off at 6:58pm and stays off air until 6am, when the channel hands its slot to BBC Four for the night. There’s no continuity announcer, just an ident before the schedule goes quiet.

Most of the schedule is BBC-commissioned. Hey Duggee, from Studio AKA and BBC Studios, has taken multiple Children’s BAFTAs since 2015 and is one of the most-streamed titles the channel has ever had. Something Special, presented by Justin Fletcher since 2003, is the longest-running preschool series in Britain. Something Special was built around Makaton signing from the outset, for children with delayed learning and communication needs, and presenters use Makaton in the links between programmes.
