Sunday’s morning is built the way CBeebies mornings usually are: once the half-hour “This Is CBeebies” ident clears at 6am, five- and ten-minute shows stack one after another so a young child can wander off and come back without losing the thread. Bing airs three times before 8am, Hey Duggee runs in back-to-back pairs twice over, first at 7:35am and again from 9:40am, and Bluey opens with a pair at 9:25am and 9:30am before returning later in the day. Something Special, Justin Fletcher’s Makaton-signed strand, gets two separate runs, at 9am and 2pm.

The one new episode lands late morning: Knee High Spies at 11:10am, with junior agents Jeremy and Deena racing to disable a noisy gadget in the playroom before it wakes a napping relative. From there the afternoon settles into the usual rotation of Octonauts, Go Jetters and Zog before the teatime run brings back Rafi the Wishing Wizard, a repeat outing for Bluey, and Sarah & Duck ahead of Charlie and Lola and Moon and Me closing out early evening.

CBeebies tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

There’s no competing with the athletics closing ceremony or the cricket final dominating the grown-up channels tonight. CBeebies just does what it always does at this hour: slows everything down, then switches itself off.

BeddyByes — CBeebies, 6:10pm

BeddyByes opens the wind-down at 6:10pm, ten minutes of gentle songs and soft narration built to take the pace out of a child’s evening before anything more involved starts.

In the Night Garden — CBeebies, 6:20pm

In the Night Garden follows at 6:20pm. Close to two decades old now, it’s still one of the odder things the BBC makes for toddlers: half an hour of Iggle Piggle and friends pottering about with barely a line of dialogue between them, which is rather the point this close to lights out.

CBeebies Bedtime Stories — CBeebies, 6:50pm

The evening closes, as it does every night, with CBeebies Bedtime Stories at 6:50pm: eight minutes of a familiar face reading a picture book straight to camera. It’s the most reliable slot on the whole channel and probably the best-loved. Once it ends, CBeebies signs off and hands its slot to BBC Four until programmes resume at 6am.

Something Special was built around Makaton signing from the outset, for children with delayed learning and communication needs, and presenters use Makaton in the links between programmes.
