Wednesday’s morning follows the shape CBeebies mornings always take: once the “This Is CBeebies” ident clears at 6am, short five- and ten-minute shows stack one after another so a young child can drift off and come back without losing the thread. Bing gets three outings today, at 6:05am, 6:45am and 9am, a different episode each time, and Hey Duggee runs in a back-to-back pair at 7:05am and 7:15am before a further slot at 11:20am. Bluey follows straight after Hey Duggee at 7:20am and 7:30am, two different episodes back to back. Something Special, still built around Makaton signing throughout, has two slots today, 9:45am and 1:45pm, with a different episode in each.

The afternoon works through the channel’s usual rotation, Octonauts, Zog, Go Jetters, Puffin Rock, Roots and Fruits, Love Monster, Piripenguins and Yukee among them, most getting a morning-or-lunchtime slot and a separate afternoon showing. Hey Duggee and Bluey both return in the late afternoon, at 3:45pm/3:50pm and 4:40pm/4:45pm — and the 4:40pm/4:45pm Bluey pair is a straight repeat of the 7:20am/7:30am pair rather than two new episodes, so the same two stories bookend the day. The one genuinely new arrival is at 4:25pm, when Do Not Watch This Show brings a new episode from its second series into the mid-afternoon slot. In this episode, “Purple Ducky”, MeMo and BaBa are playing at the Play Tree when one of their toys breaks. BaBa works out how to have fun without it, a gentle nudge that a broken toy doesn’t have to mean playtime is over.

In the Night Garden — CBeebies, 6:20pm

Ooo has spent all episode building a tower out of bricks in the Night Garden, and when Eee knocks it flat, the mood dips instantly. Rather than rebuild straight away, Ooo picks up an instrument and plays something slow and sad, letting the feeling pass in its own time before the garden settles for the night.

CBeebies Bedtime Stories — CBeebies, 6:50pm

The night’s reader is Jenny Agutter, who closes out the day with Follow the Track, All the Way Back. It’s the last programme of the day and, as ever, the point most families actually watch for.

CBeebies closes down for the night straight after, with a card confirming programmes resume at 6am tomorrow. That’s not a show, just the sign-off.

Accessibility isn’t parked in one corner of the schedule here. Something Special was built around Makaton signing from the outset, for children with delayed learning and communication needs, and presenters use Makaton in the links between programmes.
