What’s on Channel 4 today: the daytime schedule

The overnight hours open with Emergency Helicopter Medics at 12:05am and a fresh Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA at 1am, before the drama Dirt Music runs from 1:55am. Find It, Fix It, Flog It gets a five-minute slot at 3:40am ahead of Couples Come Dine with Me, then the Hollyoaks Omnibus rounds up the week’s episodes at 4:40am and Countdown opens the day proper at 5:50am. Breakfast belongs to the American sitcom archive: three episodes of The King of Queens from 6:30am, then three of Everybody Loves Raymond from 7:45am.

Frasier takes the late-morning slot, four episodes back to back from 9:10am, followed by Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back at 11:10am. American Pickers — Channel 4, 6pm

Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz head to Napa Valley, less interested in the vineyards than in one of the largest wine-collecting hoards either has come across.

The weekday bulletin gets its full hour tonight, running to 7:55pm — twice the length of the Saturday and Sunday editions.

The Dog House — Channel 4, 8pm

Series 7 returns to the Wood Green rehoming centre: a nervous cockapoo needs a gentle touch and a trim, and a dachshund called Coco has to get past her nerves on a first meeting with a prospective new owner. 4seven runs a different series of The Dog House at 7pm the same night, so the two aren’t the same episode.

Celebrity Hunted — Channel 4, 9pm

This is the series finale. With 48 hours on the clock, the last celebrities still free converge on Birmingham, trying to reach an extraction point before the hunters close in — the culmination of a run that has raised money for Stand Up To Cancer since the celebrities went on the run.

24 Hours in A&E — Channel 4, 10pm and 11:05pm

Two episodes close the night, and they run out of sequence: series 34 episode 8 airs first at 10pm, then episode 7 follows at 11:05pm. The earlier one covers a scooter accident, a high-speed motorbike crash and a rubbish-related mishap; the later one deals with a pavement collision, a nightlife injury from broken glass, and a stroke scare in an older patient.

Gogglebox has been running since 2013, filming regular families and friends reacting to the week’s telly from their own sofas. 24 Hours in A&E films inside a working NHS hospital, originally St George’s in Tooting and later King’s College, with fixed cameras and no presenter. Dispatches, running since 1987, does the investigative work few other British programmes go near; its 2023 Russell Brand investigation was made jointly with two national newspapers.

Baking, lifestyle and food

The Great British Bake Off can make an entire nation care about proving times and choux pastry. It moved from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2017 and still pulls some of the biggest entertainment audiences of the year each autumn. Bake Off: The Professionals swaps the amateurs for trained pastry chefs, and the sugar-work sculptures they produce are frankly ridiculous. Come Dine With Me just keeps going in the afternoons, held together entirely by Dave Lamb’s narration.
