E4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look most weeknights at 7pm. Tuesday 4 August keeps that pattern going, and there are two Hollyoaks episodes rather than the usual one: episode 91 repeats at 6:30pm having already had an outing this morning, then a genuinely new episode 92 airs at 7pm as the first-look ahead of Channel 4. Vanderpump Rules continues its new series at 8pm, Below Deck Down Under follows with a new episode at 9pm, and First Dates: Valentine’s Special at 10pm is an archive episode, its Valentine’s theming left over from the original broadcast rather than tied to tonight’s date. E4 is free to air on Freeview and Sky, and free to stream through Channel 4’s app.

What’s on E4 today

The small hours are reruns: First Dates just after midnight, then Vanderpump Rules and Below Deck Down Under back to back, followed by an older Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA episode. A run of Simpsons and Goldbergs repeats carries the channel past 5am, then Brooklyn Nine-Nine leads into Hollyoaks at 6am and 6:30am, the pair of episodes weekday viewers get before breakfast.

Rude(ish) Tube Shorts and Couples Come Dine with Me fill the school-run hour, then two more Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA repeats either side of 8am and 9am. America’s Funniest Home Videos and a Below Deck Mediterranean episode take the channel into midday, then it’s largely sitcom reruns for the rest of the afternoon: four Simpsons episodes, two of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, four of Modern Family and a further three of The Simpsons carrying through to 6pm and the run into evening primetime.

E4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

Here’s the E4 primetime line-up for tonight, Tuesday 4 August 2026.

The Simpsons — E4, 6pm

An older rerun, the Treehouse of Horror episode where Homer takes over as Mr Burns’ winter caretaker and the isolation gets to him fast.

Hollyoaks — E4, 6:30pm

Episode 91 gets its second outing tonight, having already screened as this morning’s first-look. Leela won’t drop her suspicions about Ste and James, and a resident ends up saying more than they meant to.

Hollyoaks — E4, 7pm

Half an hour later, episode 92 arrives as a genuinely new instalment, E4’s usual day-ahead advantage over Channel 4. Beth and Frankie have it out in the village, James works to keep his past buried, and there’s a suggestion someone else is hiding something too. It’s the busier of tonight’s two episodes, and the one most viewers will treat as “tonight’s Hollyoaks” even though the 6:30pm repeat got there first.

The Simpsons — E4, 7:30pm

Homer sets out to find Smithers a partner, while Milhouse sulks over losing out to Lisa for the lead in the school’s Casablanca production.

Vanderpump Rules — E4, 8pm

Series 12 continues with its second episode: Audrey cosies up to new bartender Chris, Lisa has words with Marcus, and Venus’s attempt to broker peace between Natalie and Kim doesn’t go to plan.

Below Deck Down Under — E4, 9pm

Another new-season episode. Harry tries to rekindle things with Bri, Wihan bristles at Lara’s criticism of his team, and a pair of silver hotpants causes more of a stir than anyone on board probably wanted.

First Dates: Valentine’s Special — E4, 10pm

Despite the August date, this is a Valentine’s-themed repeat rather than a new episode. A beauty queen meets a self-described cheeky chappy, and a 59-year-old has her first date with a woman.

Naked Attraction — E4, 11pm

A series 4 rerun closes the night. One dater has run out of patience with Cornwall’s surfer crowd, another hopes a window cleaner’s physique translates into a connection.

Popular shows on E4

Reality

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Gogglebox is a Friday-night Channel 4 show. E4 runs the repeats.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

How to watch E4

Channel numbers

Where to find E4 by platform:

Platform Channel Number
Freeview 13
Sky (Q, Stream, Glass) 135
Virgin Media / Freesat Check your on-screen guide

E4 is free-to-air everywhere. A Freeview aerial carries it, and so does every Sky package as standard.

Streaming

E4 streams live and on demand for free through Channel 4’s app and channel4.com, covering smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and most streaming sticks. Registration is free and asks for no payment details. Adverts play regardless. The full E4 library is there as well, including complete runs of Married at First Sight Australia and MAFS UK, and Hollyoaks as catch-up after transmission.

E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family

E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.

Frequently asked questions

What’s on E4 tonight?

Hollyoaks runs twice tonight: a repeat of episode 91 at 6:30pm, then episode 92 as a genuinely new instalment at 7pm, a day ahead of Channel 4. Vanderpump Rules continues its new series at 8pm and Below Deck Down Under has a new episode at 9pm. First Dates: Valentine’s Special at 10pm is a repeat despite the date, and Naked Attraction closes the night at 11pm. Times are in the schedule table above.

Does E4 have adverts?

Yes. It is a commercial channel, so ad breaks run on linear TV and on the streaming free tier alike. No licence fee, no subscription. Record it on a PVR and you can skip them as usual.

When did E4 launch?

E4 launched on 18 January 2001 as a companion to Channel 4, aimed at younger viewers from day one. It began as a subscription service, later went free-to-air, and reached Freeview in May 2005.

Verdict

Hollyoaks is the reason to tune in early tonight, with two episodes rather than the usual one: a repeat at 6:30pm followed by a genuinely new instalment at 7pm, a full day ahead of Channel 4. From there E4 leans on new-season episodes, Vanderpump Rules at 8pm and Below Deck Down Under at 9pm.

Worth knowing before the 10pm slot settles in: First Dates: Valentine’s Special is an archive episode, not one written for tonight. The Valentine’s setting is a leftover from its original broadcast, not a sign of anything seasonal.

Tuesday’s line-up is a normal weekday one, and it starts with double the soap.
