EntertainmentE4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. Thursdays break that pattern: there’s no Hollyoaks tonight, and The Simpsons fills the early evening instead. Thursday 6 August runs six Simpsons episodes from 5pm to 7:30pm, jumping from a mid-1990s season to one made two decades later, before Vanderpump Rules opens a new series episode at 8pm. Cruising Paradise: Above & Below Deck, a brand new series, airs its second episode at 9pm, then Gogglebox closes out the 10pm hour with a single episode from its twentieth series, an older run rather than anything current. E4 is free to air on Freeview and Sky, and free to stream through Channel 4’s app.

What’s on E4 today
The small hours are reruns: Gogglebox just after midnight, then a new series episode of Vanderpump Rules at 2:10am, followed by an older Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA episode. A run of Simpsons and Goldbergs repeats carries the channel past 4am, then two Brooklyn Nine-Nine episodes lead into Modern Family at 6am and 6:30am, the pair of episodes weekday viewers get before breakfast.
Rude(ish) Tube Shorts and Couples Come Dine with Me fill the school-run hour, then two more Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA repeats either side of 8am and 9am. America’s Funniest Home Videos and a Below Deck Mediterranean episode take the channel into midday, then it’s largely sitcom reruns for the rest of the afternoon: four Simpsons episodes, two of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and four of Modern Family carry through to 5pm, when six more Simpsons episodes take over and run through to the 8pm hour.
E4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the E4 primetime line-up for tonight, Thursday 6 August 2026.
The Simpsons — E4, 6pm
Krusty is heavily in debt to Fat Tony in “Homie the Clown” (series 6), so he sets up a clown college, and Homer can’t resist signing up for a new career behind the greasepaint.
The Simpsons — E4, 6:30pm
“Bart vs Australia” closes out the series six run: a prank phone call from Bart sparks a diplomatic incident down under, and he’s sent to make amends in person.
The Simpsons — E4, 7pm
The show jumps forward two decades here. “Fland Canyon” (series 27) has Homer spinning Maggie a bedtime story about a Simpson-Flanders family holiday to the Grand Canyon that goes wrong for everyone involved.
The Simpsons — E4, 7:30pm
“To Courier with Love” sends Homer to Paris carrying a briefcase of mysterious contents, the price of a cheap family holiday arranged through a travel agent with questionable judgement.
Vanderpump Rules — E4, 8pm
A new episode at 8pm: Kim’s evening with the girls spirals out of control, Chris pitches in to help Audrey settle into her new flat, and Jason attempts to patch things up with Angelica.
Cruising Paradise: Above & Below Deck — E4, 9pm
E4’s brand new series continues into its second episode. The Star Princess crew mark St Patrick’s Day in the Dominican Republic, and massage therapist Charlotte takes an evening shift on the ship’s nightclub decks.
Gogglebox — E4, 10pm
Tonight’s episode belongs to series 20, an older run rather than the current one. The sofa critics work through clips of The Traitors, I’m a Celebrity and Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, among others.
Naked Attraction — E4, 11pm
Fitness enthusiast Rose feels her body gets more attention than her love life does, and Basingstoke barista Clarissa is after her dream woman. Both are hoping the naked pods deliver.
Popular shows on E4
Reality
Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.
Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.
Gogglebox is a Friday-night Channel 4 show. E4 runs the repeats.
Soap
Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.
US comedy
The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.
How to watch E4
Channel numbers
Where to find E4 by platform:
| Platform | Channel Number |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 13 |
| Sky (Q, Stream, Glass) | 135 |
| Virgin Media / Freesat | Check your on-screen guide |
E4 is free-to-air everywhere. A Freeview aerial carries it, and so does every Sky package as standard.
Streaming
E4 streams live and on demand for free through Channel 4’s app and channel4.com, covering smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and most streaming sticks. Registration is free and asks for no payment details. Adverts play regardless. The full E4 library is there as well, including complete runs of Married at First Sight Australia and MAFS UK, and Hollyoaks as catch-up after transmission.
E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family
E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.
E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.
Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.
Frequently asked questions
What’s on E4 tonight?
There’s no Hollyoaks tonight. Thursday is a Simpsons night on E4, with six episodes running from 5pm to 7:30pm and a jump partway through from a mid-1990s season to one made two decades later. Vanderpump Rules opens a new series episode at 8pm, then Cruising Paradise: Above & Below Deck, a brand new series, airs its second episode at 9pm. Gogglebox at 10pm is a single episode from its twentieth series, an older run rather than current material, and Naked Attraction closes the night at 11pm. Times are in the schedule table above.
Does E4 have adverts?
Yes. It is a commercial channel, so ad breaks run on linear TV and on the streaming free tier alike. No licence fee, no subscription. Record it on a PVR and you can skip them as usual.
When did E4 launch?
E4 launched on 18 January 2001 as a companion to Channel 4, aimed at younger viewers from day one. It began as a subscription service, later went free-to-air, and reached Freeview in May 2005.
Verdict
There’s no Hollyoaks to open the evening tonight. Thursday is E4’s one weeknight without the first-look, and The Simpsons fills the gap instead, running six episodes that swing from a mid-1990s season to one made two decades later. Vanderpump Rules gets the night’s first new episode at 8pm, followed by Cruising Paradise: Above & Below Deck, brand new to E4 and only two episodes in.
Worth knowing before the 10pm slot settles in: tonight’s Gogglebox belongs to series 20, an earlier run rather than the current one. Fine for a rewatch, but don’t expect reactions to anything currently in the news.
Thursday’s line-up leans on reruns before dark, then two genuinely new shows once primetime begins.
