E4 TV Guide: Listings, Schedule & What’s On E4 Tonight

ChannelsDaily TV Guide
Tonight at a Glance 9 programmes · 6pm–1am

E4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. Saturday 22 August 2026 hands nearly the whole afternoon and evening over to one show — The Simpsons runs unbroken from 2:25pm to 9pm, thirteen episodes back to back and six of them inside primetime — before Celebrity Gogglebox takes the 9pm slot and a Gogglebox double closes the night at 10pm and 11:05pm. There’s no Hollyoaks on a Saturday; the first-look strand is a weeknight fixture only.

What’s on E4 today

Today’s overnight run opens with a rerun of the 2019 thriller The 355 at 1:30am, then two episodes of The Goldbergs and three of Brooklyn Nine-Nine carry the graveyard shift through to 6am. Lego Masters Australia opens the day proper, followed by two episodes of Below Deck Down Under and three of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA through the morning. Mr Popper’s Penguins, the 2011 Jim Carrey comedy, fills the 12:30pm slot.

From 2:25pm, The Simpsons takes over almost entirely. Thirteen episodes run without a break until 9pm — five from an older sixth-season batch through the afternoon, two more heading into early evening, then a switch to a run of season-eleven outings from 6pm onwards. Six of those thirteen episodes fall inside primetime. There’s no Hollyoaks anywhere in today’s line-up; the first-look strand is a Monday-to-Wednesday fixture and doesn’t run at weekends.

E4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

Here’s what’s on E4 tonight, Saturday 22 August 2026.

The Simpsons — E4, 2:25pm to 9pm

E4 gives over six and a half hours to a single show today. The Simpsons runs unbroken from 2:25pm to 9pm, thirteen episodes back to back and six of them inside primetime. The afternoon leg comes from an older sixth-season batch; from 6pm the run switches to a stretch of season-eleven episodes — Maude Flanders’ death at the racetrack, Homer’s stint as a reluctant missionary on a Pacific island, Moe’s disastrous plastic surgery, a flash-forward to Bart’s future as a struggling musician, Barney’s attempt to give up drink with Homer standing in as the town’s replacement drunk, and the family fleeing Florida after an accidental alligator killing. Just ten unique titles fill E4’s entire schedule today, and this one run accounts for a third of it.

Celebrity Gogglebox — E4, 9pm

Series 8 of Celebrity Gogglebox takes the sofas at 9pm, with famous faces giving their verdict on the week’s television, including Countdown and Clarkson’s Farm.

Gogglebox — E4, 10pm

The regular format returns at 10pm, with households reacting to Prisoner, Countdown and First Dates.

Gogglebox — E4, 11:05pm

A second, separately sourced Gogglebox closes the night at 11:05pm, this one built around The Apprentice and Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain — a different episode from the one an hour earlier, not a repeat.

Popular shows on E4

Reality

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Gogglebox is a Friday-night Channel 4 show. E4 runs the repeats.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

How to watch E4

Channel numbers

Where to find E4 by platform:

Platform Channel Number
Freeview 13
Sky (Q, Stream, Glass) 135
Virgin Media / Freesat Check your on-screen guide

E4 is free-to-air everywhere. A Freeview aerial carries it, and so does every Sky package as standard.

Streaming

E4 streams live and on demand for free through Channel 4’s app and channel4.com, covering smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and most streaming sticks. Registration is free and asks for no payment details. Adverts play regardless. The full E4 library is there as well, including complete runs of Married at First Sight Australia and MAFS UK, and Hollyoaks as catch-up after transmission.

E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family

E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.

Frequently asked questions

What’s on E4 tonight?

Almost entirely The Simpsons. Thirteen episodes run back to back from 2:25pm to 9pm, six of them inside primetime, before Celebrity Gogglebox takes the 9pm slot and a Gogglebox double closes the night at 10pm and 11:05pm. There’s no Hollyoaks — the first-look strand is a weeknight-only fixture. Times are in the schedule table above.

Does E4 have adverts?

Yes. It is a commercial channel, so ad breaks run on linear TV and on the streaming free tier alike. No licence fee, no subscription. Record it on a PVR and you can skip them as usual.

When did E4 launch?

E4 launched on 18 January 2001 as a companion to Channel 4, aimed at younger viewers from day one. It began as a subscription service, later went free-to-air, and reached Freeview in May 2005.

Verdict

Saturday is the day E4 leans hardest into repeats. The Simpsons occupies six and a half hours without a break, from 2:25pm to 9pm, and six of those thirteen episodes fall inside primetime — more screen time than any other title gets across the whole day. There’s no Hollyoaks: the first-look strand is a weeknight fixture, off on Saturdays regardless of anything else in the schedule.

The variety comes after 9pm rather than before it. Celebrity Gogglebox brings famous faces to the sofas first, reacting to the week’s TV, then the regular Gogglebox format takes over at 10pm with a second, separately sourced episode following at 11:05pm — two distinct instalments, not a repeat of the same one.

Daytime keeps its usual overnight-to-breakfast shape: The 355 in the small hours, The Goldbergs and Brooklyn Nine-Nine carrying the graveyard shift, Lego Masters Australia and Below Deck Down Under through breakfast, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA mid-morning and Mr Popper’s Penguins at 12:30pm, before The Simpsons takes over for the rest of the day. Just ten unique titles fill 29 slots today — a narrower spread than most weekdays, but a familiar shape for an E4 Saturday.

TV Radar Team is the byline on TV Radar's automatically generated TV guides — covering BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and beyond. Each evening's schedule is built from the published listings (titles, start times, run lengths and episode numbers) and checked against our listings data before publication, so you can decide in two minutes what to record and what to skip. These guides are generated automatically rather than written by hand; a human editor spot-checks them, but not every page is read before it goes live. Based in London, updated every day.
