What’s on E4 today

The overnight hours open with a Gogglebox double from 12:25am, then two episodes of Below Deck take the graveyard slot from 2:30am. Modern Family fills 4am before the Hollyoaks Omnibus arrives at 4:25am, rounding up the week’s episodes so far rather than delivering a new one. Two further Hollyoaks repeats sit at 6am and 6:30am — breakfast reruns, not the first-look showing, which is kept back for 7pm. Couples Come Dine with Me runs at 7am, and two episodes of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA carry the schedule through to 10am.

America’s Funniest Home Videos takes 10am and Below Deck Mediterranean follows at 11am. From midday, four episodes of The Simpsons run back to back to 1:30pm, drawn from the show’s fifteenth series, then two episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and four of Modern Family carry the schedule to 5pm. The Simpsons returns for a second, longer run from 5pm to 7pm — four more episodes spanning series 21 and 27, with the final two sliding into early evening before Hollyoaks takes over at 7pm.

The Simpsons — E4, 6pm & 6:30pm

The teatime Simpsons run reaches its third and fourth instalments of the day at 6pm and 6:30pm. The first has Homer squaring off against a celebrity chef in a barbecue cook-off, only for his prized grill to go missing before the contest starts. The second watches Patty try to give up smoking, fail, and move in with Marge and Homer once Selma turns their own flat smoke-free.

Hollyoaks — E4, 7pm

Episode 100 gets its first showing on E4, a full day ahead of Channel 4. Vicky’s family close ranks around her once the truth comes out, Warren’s run of good news doesn’t last long, and one resident has an agenda nobody else in the village has clocked yet.

The Simpsons — E4, 7:30pm

A standalone rerun follows Hollyoaks rather than continuing the teatime run — a 1995 episode in which Krusty, deep in debt to Fat Tony, sets up a clown college, and Homer signs up hoping for a new career.

Ladies of London: The New Reign — E4, 8pm

The socialite format returns for a fourth series, following the blue-blood and expat set through London high society. Tonight’s opener is set at an outdoor gathering thrown by Mark-Francis Vandelli, where fresh faces joining the group stir up gossip among the regulars.

Below Deck Down Under — E4, 9pm

The yacht is back at sea for a fresh instalment: a crew night off duty sparks an unexpected romance while an established friendship starts to fray. Tension builds between two of the deck crew, and the bosun pushes a colleague well outside her comfort zone.

Gogglebox — E4, 10pm

This is the E4 edition, series 21, and a different episode from the ones airing tonight on Channel 4 and 4seven — the three channels are not showing the same instalment.

First Dates — E4, 11pm

Fiona, a cake-maker who happily calls herself a princess, is paired with recruitment consultant Rakim, while Jessica — happy with lager, football and no intention of changing for anyone — sits down opposite Ryan.

Reality

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Gogglebox is a Friday-night Channel 4 show. E4 runs the repeats.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded.
