E4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. Tuesday 1 September 2026 is one of those first-look nights — the 6am and 6:30am repeats are catch-up, there is no Omnibus today, and the genuinely new episode holds its regular 7pm slot. Overnight opens with Naked Attraction just after midnight, then Below Deck Down Under, Ladies of London: The New Reign and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA before three Goldbergs episodes and the Brooklyn Nine-Nine pilot at 5:35am. Two Hollyoaks catch-up episodes follow at 6am and 6:30am — not new — ahead of a brief Rude(ish) Tube Shorts and Couples Come Dine with Me at 7am. There is no Omnibus today.

Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA runs twice from 8am, then America’s Funniest Home Videos twice from 10am. The Simpsons dominates the afternoon: four episodes from 12pm, all from series 27 and skipping episode eight (6, 7, 9 and 10), followed by two episodes of The Goldbergs from its debut series and four of Modern Family through to 4:30pm.

Early evening brings four more Simpsons episodes back to back from 5pm — series 33 episodes 5, 8, 9 and 10, another run that skips numbers rather than running in sequence — eight Simpsons episodes across the day in total.

The Simpsons — E4, 6pm

Series 33, episode 9. Homer takes himself to therapy over the mother he barely had, and the hour turns into a long look back at a road trip he and Grampa once made trying to find her.

The Simpsons — E4, 6:30pm

Episode 10, and Maggie still has not been christened. Marge sends Homer out to find a godfather, and he lands on Fat Tony, which tells you most of what follows.

Hollyoaks — E4, 7pm

The first-look episode, a full day ahead of Channel 4. Two siblings get a reunion that lands harder than either expected, Dee Dee finds every eye in the classroom on her, and the arrival of an unfamiliar face forces Gemma to say out loud what she has been keeping quiet.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine — E4, 7:30pm

The second episode of the 2013 first series, not the pilot — that ran at 5:35am this morning. Peralta turns up late to roll call and Holt’s punishment is a graffiti case and a captain watching his every move.

Ladies of London: The New Reign — E4, 8pm

Myka throws a birthday party with a polo theme, and Missé takes on the job of getting Margo and Mark-Francis speaking again. Worth knowing: the listing calls this a brand new series, and it is episode seven of series four.

Below Deck Down Under — E4, 9pm

Marina decides to drop her guard about her love life and regrets it more or less immediately, while Tzarina and Lara pick up an argument neither will apologise for. The same “brand new series” wording appears here too; this is episode fifteen of series three.

Gogglebox — E4, 10pm

An archive run from series 22, with the sofas working through Planet Earth III, Mamma Mia!, Uncanny and Celebrity Race Across the World among others.

First Dates — E4, 11:05pm

Series 19, episode 4 pairs a pilot with a lorry driver, and sets Bethany up with a date she is convinced her height will put off.

Reality

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

Registration is free and asks for no payment details. Adverts play regardless. E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family

E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.
