E4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. Friday 4 September 2026 falls outside that window, so there is no Hollyoaks anywhere on E4 today — the 7pm slot instead belongs to The Simpsons, the last of five airings the channel gives the show across the day. Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s fifth episode follows at 7:30pm, then Ladies of London: The New Reign takes 8pm despite its own synopsis wrongly billing itself as a brand new series for the fourth night running. What’s on E4 today

Overnight opens with Naked Attraction’s Best Naughty Bits just after midnight, then Gogglebox — an archive series 22 showing, not tonight’s Channel 4 launch — Ladies of London: The New Reign and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA, before two consecutive Goldbergs episodes and Brooklyn Nine-Nine at 5:10am. Modern Family opens breakfast with two genuinely consecutive episodes from 6am (series 4, episodes 12 and 13), then a brief Rude(ish) Tube Shorts and Couples Come Dine with Me at 7am. There is no Hollyoaks catch-up today: the first-look strand, and its 6am/6:30am repeats, run Monday to Wednesday only, there is no Omnibus on a weekday, and the strand does not return until Monday 7 September.

Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA runs twice from 8am, then America’s Funniest Home Videos twice from 10am. The Simpsons dominates the afternoon: four episodes from noon, series 27 episodes 19 to 22 in strict order, followed by two episodes of The Goldbergs from its debut series. Modern Family then runs four episodes to 4:30pm, but it is not a clean run — the first two (series 8, episodes 20 and 21) give way to the first two of series 9, so the block crosses a series boundary partway through.

Early evening brings four more Simpsons episodes from 5pm, and only three of them belong together: series 33 episodes 20, 21 and 22 run in order from 5pm to 6pm, all sitting in primetime, before 6:30pm jumps to series 36 episode 1 (“Bart’s Birthday”) — an unrelated later-era episode — and the 7pm slot jumps again, this time back to series 14 episode 3, “Bart vs. Lisa vs. the Third Grade”. That makes nine Simpsons airings across the day; the noon block is a genuine four-episode run, and only the first three of the early-evening five are consecutive.

E4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

Here’s the E4 primetime line-up for tonight, Friday 4 September 2026. There is no soap and no Hollyoaks — the first-look strand is off until Monday 7 September — and once the 8pm reality hour clears, E4 hands the rest of its night to two films back to back, a change from its usual comedy-repeats shape.

The Simpsons — E4, 6pm, 6:30pm and 7pm

Three Simpsons episodes lead in, but only the first belongs to a run: 6pm (series 33, episode 22) is the tail of the early-evening block that started at 5pm, 6:30pm jumps forward to series 36, episode 1 (“Bart’s Birthday”), and 7pm jumps back again to series 14, episode 3, “Bart vs. Lisa vs. the Third Grade”. None of the three is connected to either of the others.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine — E4, 7:30pm

Brooklyn Nine-Nine takes the 7:30pm slot with series 1, episode 5, “The Vulture” — a detective from Major Crimes muscles in on a case Peralta is on the verge of closing. It’s the handover between the Simpsons run and Ladies of London at 8pm, ahead of E4 giving the rest of the night over to Black Panther and Scream.

Ladies of London: The New Reign — E4, 8pm

At 8pm, it’s Ladies of London: The New Reign (series 4, episode 10). It carries a New: flag and its own synopsis calls it a brand new series — the fourth night running the feed has made that claim on this title, and it is not true; this is a mid-series episode.

Black Panther — E4, 9pm

The 9pm hour belongs to Black Panther (2018), the Ryan Coogler original with Chadwick Boseman, running two hours forty-five minutes to 11:45pm.

Scream — E4, 11:45pm

Scream (2022) takes over at 11:45pm — the “re-quel” with Neve Campbell, not the 1996 original — closing out E4’s two-film evening.

Reality

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family

E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.
