EntertainmentGREAT! Romance is the UK’s free-to-air home for Hallmark-style romance films, tucked away on Freeview 52. Narrative Entertainment picked it up in 2021 along with the rest of Sony Pictures Television’s old UK free-to-air stable, ran it for a while as GREAT! Movies Classic, then switched it to romance and nothing else in January 2023. Tonight, Thursday 6 August 2026, Paris rom-com A Paris Proposal (2023) runs from 7:55pm around a short news break, Accidentally Engaged (2016) follows from 9:50pm around another, and A Wedding for Belle (2025) closes the night from 11:45pm.

What’s on GREAT! Romance today
Daytime runs on the same pattern as the evening: films split either side of a short “Good News on GREAT!” bulletin. A Wish Come True opens the day’s proper run at 8:10am, Megan Park playing a woman granted every wish she made as a child on her 30th birthday, only for the fulfilment to unravel in ways she didn’t bargain for. It breaks at 9:05am and resumes at 9:10am through to 10:05am.
Her Pen Pal takes over at 10:15am, Victoria in Paris for a friend’s wedding and roping in her childhood French pen pal Jacques to pose as her date so an ex believes she’s moved on. That pauses at 11:10am and picks up again at 11:15am until 12:05pm. A Summer Romance follows from 12:05pm, Erin Krakow as a rancher fighting to keep her family’s land who finds the property developer trying to buy it harder to resist than expected, breaking at 1pm and resuming at 1:05pm until 2pm.
Love, Fall and Order runs from 2pm to 3:55pm around a 2:55pm bulletin, city lawyer Claire returning home to save her family’s pumpkin farm only to find the opposing counsel is Patrick, an old high school debate rival. Falling for the Competition takes the late-afternoon slot from 3:55pm, two parenting groups going head-to-head for an award while a couple of the mums and dads involved get distracted by each other, pausing at 4:50pm and resuming at 4:55pm until 5:55pm, when Fishing for Love opens the run into tonight’s primetime films.
GREAT! Romance tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the GREAT! Romance primetime line-up for tonight, Thursday 6 August 2026.
Fishing for Love — GREAT! Romance, 5:55pm
Andrea Brooks and Spencer Lord lead this 2021 romance as a restaurant designer who moves back to her hometown of Mystic Bay and runs into a new arrival who turns out to be more than a passing distraction. The film breaks for a short Good News on GREAT! bulletin at 6:50pm and resumes at 6:55pm through to 7:55pm.
A Paris Proposal — GREAT! Romance, 7:55pm
Alexa PenaVega and Nicholas Bishop star in this 2023 rom-com, playing Anna and Sebastian, who pretend to be a couple after a big client mistakes them for one and then have to work out how much of the act has become real. A second Good News on GREAT! break splits the film at 8:50pm, with the back half running from 8:55pm to 9:50pm.
Accidentally Engaged — GREAT! Romance, 9:50pm
This 2016 rom-com stars Lexi Giovagnoli as a struggling actress who fakes an engagement to an A-list star for the publicity, only for the arrangement to stop feeling like an act. It pauses for the 10:45pm bulletin and picks up again at 10:50pm until 11:45pm.
A Wedding for Belle — GREAT! Romance, 11:45pm
Ella Cannon plays a wedding blogger finally getting married in her hometown in this 2025 film, which closes out the night. An old high-school boyfriend turning up threatens to complicate the day.
What kind of films are on GREAT! Romance
Made-for-TV romance and Hallmark-style movies
Most of the schedule is exactly what the name promises: romantic comedies and dramas made for television rather than cinema, a great many of them produced for the American Hallmark and Lifetime markets and licensed over here afterwards. Cake shops, small-town festivals, mistaken identities, matchmakers who fall for their own clients. That repetition is the appeal rather than a flaw. Nobody switching on at three on a weekday afternoon wants to be surprised.
Christmas and seasonal takeovers
From October through to early January the channel goes almost entirely festive, with some titles shared with the network’s seasonal GREAT! Christmas strand. The rest of the year defaults to spring and summer settings, weddings and plots that require somebody to get on a plane.
Faith-based and heavier drama
A handful of the films are more serious than the rest, often adapted from novels or true stories, and willing to sit with grief or faith rather than hurry past it. Same genre, heavier going.
How to watch GREAT! Romance
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find GREAT! Romance across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 52 |
| Sky | 319 |
| Virgin Media | 424 |
| Great! Player (streaming) | Freeview 63 |
All of the above are free, with no subscription required. Freesat is the gap: the whole GREAT! network was withdrawn from that platform in 2024, so Freesat viewers need Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media or the Great! Player app instead. Virgin Media numbers shift slightly by region, so trust your on-screen guide over ours if the two disagree.
Streaming online
GREAT! Romance streams free through the Great! Player app, available on iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung and LG smart TVs, and at great-player.com. There is no account to create and no sign-up form to fill in. You open the app and the channel is there, paid for by ad breaks rather than by you, which is rarer among UK streaming apps than it ought to be.
GREAT! sister channels
Four channels sit under the GREAT! banner, all free-to-air, all inherited from the Sony Pictures Television UK portfolio Narrative Entertainment bought in 2021.
- GREAT! TV (Freeview 34): general entertainment, classic sitcoms and drama repeats
- GREAT! Movies (Freeview 50): films across every genre, not just romance
- GREAT! Action (Freeview 42): action, adventure and war films
A fifth, GREAT! Christmas, borrows part of the network’s schedule each winter and hands it back in the new year.

Verdict
GREAT! Romance does one job and does it consistently: comfort viewing with guaranteed happy endings, and enough turnover that regulars rarely see the same film twice in a fortnight. It will never trouble anyone after ambitious television. Watch two in a row and the tics start to show. The cake shops. The small towns forever in need of saving. The third-act misunderstanding that one honest conversation would have cleared up in a minute.
Tonight is formula throughout too. A Paris Proposal gets the earlier slot, PenaVega and Bishop’s mistaken-identity setup moving briskly enough to paper over how familiar the shape is. Accidentally Engaged is a decade older and leans more on Giovagnoli’s performance than on incident, with the fake-relationship premise doing most of the plot’s work.
