EntertainmentGREAT! Romance is the UK’s free-to-air home for Hallmark-style romance films, tucked away on Freeview 52. Narrative Entertainment picked it up in 2021 as part of Sony Pictures Television’s old UK free-to-air portfolio, ran it for a couple of years as GREAT! Movies Classic, then switched it to romance only in January 2023. Saturday’s schedule leans into a royal theme through the afternoon and into primetime, with Christmas with a Crown opening the evening run at 6pm and A Royal Runaway Romance taking over at 8pm. The channel’s usual pattern holds throughout: each film gets a short “Good News on GREAT!” bulletin partway through before picking back up.

What’s on GREAT! Romance today
Daytime keeps to the same rhythm as the evening: a film plays, a short “Good News on GREAT!” bulletin interrupts it partway through, then the film picks back up before the next title starts. Snapshot of Love opens the day’s proper run at 8:10am, Lexi Giovagnoli as a paparazzo sent to chase down a famously camera-shy star, played by Benedict Mazurek, and finding the assignment turning into something more personal than professional.
Law of Attraction takes over at 10:10am, a junior lawyer chasing partner status off the back of her first big case, with Lexi Giovagnoli again in the lead alongside Joseph Almani and Beth Broderick. The channel then settles into three films built around royalty: The Royal Bake Off from 12pm has two rival bakers, Ansley Gordon among them, competing for the job of catering a fictional prince’s coronation.
A Royal Recipe for Love follows from 2pm, a New York baker flown in to cook for a royal anniversary who ends up sharing the kitchen, and increasingly her attention, with the family’s middle son. How to Win a Prince closes out the afternoon from 4pm, Anna Hopkins as a dating coach whose latest client happens to be a prince, running through to 6pm when Christmas with a Crown opens tonight’s primetime run.
GREAT! Romance tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the GREAT! Romance primetime line-up for tonight, Saturday 15 August 2026.
Christmas with a Crown — GREAT! Romance, 6pm
Lisa Durupt plays a woman who comes home to rescue her town’s struggling Christmas festival, only for a volunteer offering to help, played by Marcus Rosner, to have more riding on the outcome than he first admits. Slotting a festive title into the middle of August is an odd bit of scheduling, though GREAT! Romance rarely times its films to the calendar.
A Royal Runaway Romance — GREAT! Romance, 8pm
The night’s headline slot follows Princess Amelia, played by Philippa Northeast, slipping away from official duties for a fling with an artist she meets on the road, only to find herself drawn instead to Grady, the bodyguard assigned to keep her out of trouble. Brant Daugherty plays a minder whose job description clearly didn’t cover this.
My One and Only — GREAT! Romance, 9:50pm
A reality dating show sends Pascale Hutton’s character to a Wyoming ranch expecting chemistry with the man she’s been paired with on camera. It’s Sam Page, playing the ranch’s owner, she can’t stop noticing instead.
Autumn in the City — GREAT! Romance, 11:45pm
Aimee Teegarden closes the night as a woman rebuilding her life in a new city, drifting from an awkward first meeting with her neighbour, played by Evan Roderick, into something neither of them planned for as the season turns.
What kind of films are on GREAT! Romance
Made-for-TV romance and Hallmark-style movies
Most of the schedule is exactly what the name promises: romantic comedies and dramas made for television rather than cinema, a great many of them produced for the American Hallmark and Lifetime markets and licensed over here afterwards. Cake shops, small-town festivals, mistaken identities, matchmakers who fall for their own clients. That repetition is the appeal rather than a flaw. Nobody switching on at three on a weekday afternoon wants to be surprised.
Christmas and seasonal takeovers
From October through to early January the channel goes almost entirely festive, with some titles shared with the network’s seasonal GREAT! Christmas strand. The rest of the year defaults to spring and summer settings, weddings and plots that require somebody to get on a plane.
Faith-based and heavier drama
A handful of the films are more serious than the rest, often adapted from novels or true stories, and willing to sit with grief or faith rather than hurry past it. Same genre, heavier going.
How to watch GREAT! Romance
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find GREAT! Romance across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 52 |
| Sky | 319 |
| Virgin Media | 424 |
| Great! Player (streaming) | Freeview 63 |
All of the above are free, with no subscription required. Freesat is the gap: the whole GREAT! network was withdrawn from that platform in 2024, so Freesat viewers need Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media or the Great! Player app instead. Virgin Media numbers shift slightly by region, so trust your on-screen guide over ours if the two disagree.
Streaming online
GREAT! Romance streams free through the Great! Player app, available on iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung and LG smart TVs, and at great-player.com. There is no account to create and no sign-up form to fill in. You open the app and the channel is there, paid for by ad breaks rather than by you, which is rarer among UK streaming apps than it ought to be.
GREAT! sister channels
Four channels sit under the GREAT! banner, all free-to-air, all inherited from the Sony Pictures Television UK portfolio Narrative Entertainment bought in 2021.
- GREAT! TV (Freeview 34): general entertainment, classic sitcoms and drama repeats
- GREAT! Movies (Freeview 50): films across every genre, not just romance
- GREAT! Action (Freeview 42): action, adventure and war films
A fifth, GREAT! Christmas, borrows part of the network’s schedule each winter and hands it back in the new year.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s on GREAT! Romance tonight?
Romance films run back to back through the evening, tonight built loosely around a royal theme. Christmas with a Crown opens the run at 6pm, A Royal Runaway Romance follows at 8pm, My One and Only takes the 9:50pm slot, and Autumn in the City closes the night from 11:45pm. Full times are in the schedule table above.

Yes, entirely free to air with no subscription, on Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and through the Great! Player app. There are ad breaks during films, as with any commercially funded channel.

Verdict
GREAT! Romance does one job and does it consistently: comfort viewing with guaranteed happy endings, and enough turnover that regulars rarely see the same film twice in a fortnight. It will never trouble anyone looking for ambitious television. Watch two in a row and the tics start to show. The cake shops. The small towns forever in need of saving. The third-act misunderstanding that one honest conversation would have cleared up in a minute.
Tonight leans harder into one theme than most nights manage, stringing three royal-adjacent films together across the afternoon before breaking the pattern for the later slots. Christmas with a Crown swaps snow for an August broadcast slot, a hometown-festival plot that would have made more sense in December, though the channel rarely worries about matching content to calendar. A Royal Runaway Romance is the pick of the night, a princess falling for the bodyguard sent to keep her out of trouble rather than the artist she ran off to see, and it gives Brant Daugherty more to do than the reluctant-minder role usually allows. My One and Only closes the evening on steadier, more familiar ground: a dating show, a ranch, and the wrong man on the poster.
