EntertainmentITV4 launched on 1 November 2005, taking over ITV’s off-peak Freeview slot from the ITV News Channel before absorbing what was left of the old Men and Motors the following spring. Two decades on, it’s ITV plc’s channel for live sport and archive action, running everything from live racing to reruns of classic drama and American sitcoms. Tuesday 1 September has no live sport on ITV4 itself — the evening opens instead with two motorsport highlights packages, from the Monterey Motorsports Reunion and the World Rally Championship’s Rally of Paraguay, both events already run rather than live transmissions. Daytime is the usual run of vintage series: Magnum, P.I., Minder, Boon, Robin of Sherwood and The Professionals carry the schedule to evening, when River Monsters and a Van Damme double dose of Universal Soldier take over before Black Sails closes the night.

What’s on ITV4 today
Lost closes out the previous night with two episodes from 12:15am, then Motorsport UK highlights take 1:50am and Unwind with ITV fills the last half-hour before Teleshopping runs 3am to 6am.
Tuesday’s daytime carries no live sport at all; it’s a run of vintage drama instead. Magnum, P.I. opens at 6am and 7am, then Minder at 8:05am. Boon follows at 9:10am, Robin of Sherwood at 10:15am and The Professionals at 11:20am, before Magnum, P.I. returns for two further episodes at 12:25pm and 1:30pm. American Pickers takes 2:35pm, and Boon and The Professionals repeat at 3:40pm and 4:45pm before Minder closes the afternoon at 5:55pm, carrying the schedule to the edge of primetime.
ITV4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
No live sport on ITV4 tonight, Tuesday 1 September 2026 — both motorsport slots are highlights of events already run. Here’s the primetime line-up.
Monterey Motorsports Reunion 2026 Highlights — ITV4, 7pm
An hour of highlights from this year’s vintage-racing gathering at California’s Laguna Seca circuit, built around a tribute to Japanese motorsport for the 2026 edition. It’s a package of an event already held, not a live feed.
World Rally Championship Highlights — ITV4, 8pm
An hour cut from the season’s eleventh round, held in Paraguay. WRC gets little live UK airtime outside subscription channels, so this slot is the main terrestrial look most viewers get at a round.
River Monsters — ITV4, 9pm
Series 4, episode 3. Jeremy Wade’s search for an unexplained predator takes him into Chernobyl’s exclusion zone, hunting for whatever is behind reports of an attack near the abandoned reactor’s cooling pond.
Universal Soldier — ITV4, 9:30pm
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren’s 1992 sci-fi actioner, in which two dead special-forces soldiers are reanimated as unstoppable military prototypes who recognise each other as old enemies. ITV4 splits the film for a five-minute FYI Daily bulletin at 10:30pm, resuming at 10:35pm and running through to 11:35pm.
Black Sails — ITV4, 11:35pm
Series 2, episode 6, mid-series rather than a new run. Eleanor tries to broker peace terms, while Rackham and Flint each face the fallout of a promise and a lesson learned.
What kind of shows are on ITV4
Live sport: racing, rugby and darts
ITV4 carries the bulk of ITV’s live sport rights outside of ITV1’s biggest occasions. ITV Racing has been the channel’s anchor since horse racing moved to ITV from Channel 4 in 2017, running near-daily meetings alongside the showpiece Saturdays. The Nations Championship, rugby’s new global competition launched in July 2026, means ITV4 now shows live rugby through the summer months, when British fans wouldn’t normally get much international action on terrestrial TV. The channel has also carried live darts in recent seasons, including instalments of the World Series of Darts.
Motorsport, rally and archive sport
Beyond the live fixtures, ITV4 fills its schedule with motorsport digest shows. World Rally Championship Highlights rounds up a series that rarely gets UK coverage elsewhere, and the channel runs nightly highlights through Isle of Man TT race week each spring. Archive strands such as The Big Match Revisited and Goals of the 1990s dig into old football footage.
American reruns, action and wrestling
The rest of the schedule fills out with imported American comedy and reality (Two and a Half Men, American Pickers) and classic British action drama reruns such as The Professionals and Robin of Sherwood. None of it demands your full attention. All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite airs weekly in the late-night slot, with a repeat the following Saturday.
How to watch ITV4
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find ITV4 across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 26 |
| Freeview ITV4+1 | 59 |
| Sky | 120 |
| Sky ITV4+1 | 220 |
| Virgin Media | 118 |
| Freesat | 117 |
ITV4 is free on all of the above platforms, with no subscription required. Virgin Media and Freesat’s +1 position can move about more than Freeview and Sky, so your on-screen guide is the definitive source if it doesn’t line up exactly.
Streaming online
ITV4 streams live and free through ITVX at itv.com/watch and via the ITVX app on smart TVs, mobiles, tablets and streaming devices including Amazon Fire TV and Roku. You need a free account. Most of the archive and clip-show programming sits in the ITVX library afterwards, though racing and rugby rights usually mean shorter catch-up windows on the live sport.
ITV4 +1 and sister channels
ITV4+1 runs the same schedule an hour behind. Tonight’s 9:30pm start for Universal Soldier turns up on the +1 feed at 10:30pm instead, so anyone who misses ITV4’s showing gets a second chance an hour later.
ITV4 sits alongside ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and ITVBe in ITV plc’s channel family, all streaming through ITVX. ITV1 carries the network’s biggest live sport occasions, ITV3 leans into drama and period pieces, and ITV4 gets the more male-skewing sport and action mix.

Verdict
ITV4 goes without live sport on Tuesday 1 September. Both motorsport slots are highlights of events already run rather than live coverage, and the whole day otherwise leans on archive programming.
Magnum, P.I., Minder, Boon, Robin of Sherwood and The Professionals carry the schedule through daytime, and the evening opens with the Monterey Motorsports Reunion and World Rally Championship highlights back to back from 7pm. River Monsters takes 9pm before Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren’s Universal Soldier runs from 9:30pm, paused for a five-minute FYI Daily bulletin at 10:30pm and resuming to 11:35pm, when Black Sails closes the night. Anyone after live sport will need to look elsewhere in the ITV lineup today; anyone happy with motorsport digests, a wildlife hunt and a Van Damme double dose is well served.
