EntertainmentLegend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Tonight, Tuesday 4 August 2026, a run of Walker, Texas Ranger, The Six Million Dollar Man and Babylon 5 leads into the 9pm film, Mark Wahlberg’s 2012 crime thriller Contraband, with Michael Douglas thriller The Sentinel (2006) closing the night at 11:20pm. Full schedule below.

What’s on Legend today
The overnight hours open with a single film rather than the usual double bill. Papillon, at 2:20am, is the 2017 prison-break drama with Charlie Hunnam as a wrongly convicted man who strikes up an unlikely alliance with a fellow inmate while plotting an escape from a brutal penal colony. Legend goes off air just before 5am and fills the gap with two and a half hours of teleshopping from 5:30am.
Daytime settles into Legend’s usual rhythm of American genre television. Walker, Texas Ranger opens proceedings at 8am with series three’s second episode, followed by The Six Million Dollar Man and Babylon 5’s second season at 10am. Alien Convergence, at 11am, is a 2017 sci-fi thriller in which a squad of disabled service personnel are sent out to tackle a spreading pack of reptilian creatures. After the midday Legend Lowdown update, Gunsmoke 1: Return to Dodge, a 1987 continuation of the classic Western with James Arness back as a retired Matt Dillon drawn into a fight with an old enemy, takes the 1pm slot, and Siringo, a 1995 Western built around a US deputy marshal hunting a Comanchero gang leader, follows at 3pm. Star Trek: The Original Series airs at 5pm before the evening’s repeat run of The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger begins again at 6pm.
Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the Legend primetime line-up for tonight, Tuesday 4 August 2026.
The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm
Tonight’s early-evening rerun has Steve Austin taken hostage by a gang of submarine hijackers, with trained sharks thrown in as an extra complication once he tries to break free.
Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm
Lyta Alexander comes back to the station carrying news that unsettles the command staff, and Ivanova gives away more than she intends once a mind probe is put on the table.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm
Walker and Trivette spend the episode chasing a new designer drug through the night, Chuck Norris doing the job the series has asked of him since the mid-1990s.
Contraband — Legend, 9pm
Mark Wahlberg headlines this 2012 crime thriller as a reformed smuggler pulled back into the trade in Panama, trying to protect his brother-in-law from a drug lord while a stash of counterfeit bills complicates matters further. It’s a solid, unpretentious pick for Legend’s main film slot, playing closer to the channel’s usual action fare than to anything award-chasing, and it delivers on that promise without much fuss.
The Sentinel (2006) — Legend, 11:20pm
Michael Douglas plays a Secret Service agent framed for the very assassination plot he is meant to be uncovering, with Kiefer Sutherland’s character ordered to hunt down his own former mentor. It closes out the night as the more substantial of the two films, running past 1:30am given its length.
What kind of shows are on Legend
Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots
Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.
Sci-fi, fantasy and action films
Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.
Classic genre television
Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.

| Freeview | 41 |
| Sky | 148 |
| Virgin Media | 149 |
| Freesat | 137 |

Streaming online
Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.
Legend Xtra and sister channels
Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Verdict
Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it does instead is give proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as gap-filler: cult horror, vintage American sci-fi, and the unfashionable action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries spent the 1990s making.
Tuesday’s daytime is a fairly typical mix for the channel: Gunsmoke 1: Return to Dodge and Siringo either side of the mid-afternoon Legend Lowdown update, with Alien Convergence’s reptilian-invasion plot filling the late-morning slot. The evening belongs to the two films. Contraband at 9pm is unpretentious Wahlberg, a smuggling thriller that knows exactly what kind of Tuesday night it’s aimed at and doesn’t overreach. The Sentinel at 11:20pm is the sturdier piece: the Secret Service conspiracy at its centre gives Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland more to work with, and it closes out Legend’s night on the stronger note of the two.
