EntertainmentLegend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Tonight, Friday 7 August 2026, an original-series Star Trek at 5pm leads into The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger through early evening, before the 9pm film, Push (2009), and The Butterfly Effect (2004) closing the night at 11:20pm. Full schedule below.

What’s on Legend today
The overnight hours run two older horror titles back to back. Red Sonja, at 1:40am, is the 1985 fantasy adventure with Brigitte Nielsen as a sword-wielding warrior avenging her family and stopping a queen bent on seizing a magic talisman. The Satanic Rites of Dracula, at 3:30am, follows with Christopher Lee’s Count rising from the grave to unleash a plague on the world, a descendant of Van Helsing on his trail. Legend goes off air just after 5am and fills the gap with two and a half hours of teleshopping from 5:30am.
Daytime settles into Legend’s usual rhythm of American genre television. Walker, Texas Ranger opens proceedings at 8am with Chuck Norris wounded after confronting ranchers threatening federally protected horses, followed by The Six Million Dollar Man at 9am and Babylon 5’s second season at 10am, in which the Centauri war machine rolls on toward the Narn homeworld. Triassic Hunt, at 11am, is a 2020 creature feature: two genetically recreated dinosaurs get loose and a group of hired guns are sent to stop them. After the midday Legend Lowdown update, The Buccaneer takes the 1pm slot, Charlton Heston’s 1958 remake of the swashbuckler in which a general defending New Orleans strikes an uneasy alliance with a notorious pirate to repel the British. When Worlds Collide, at 3:20pm, is 1951 apocalyptic sci-fi: a new planet is hurtling towards a doomed Earth and a group of scientists race to build a rocket out. Star Trek: The Original Series airs at 5pm before the evening’s repeat run of The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger begins again at 6pm.
Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the Legend primetime line-up for tonight, Friday 7 August 2026.
The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm
One of the Bigfoot episodes, which tells you most of what you need to know. An anthropologist photographs the creature, thought to have left with the aliens who made it, and Steve goes to look.
Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm
The series two closer. Officials from Earth’s Ministry of Peace arrive to handle the Centauri expansion, and a Narn heavy cruiser turns up asking for sanctuary. A significant episode if you’ve been following the run.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm
Chuck Norris in the martial arts western. Walker goes to Chief Six Feathers’ funeral with questions about whether the death was an accident.
Push — Legend, 9pm
The 2009 thriller with Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning. Two Americans with psychic abilities race a covert government outfit to find a girl in Hong Kong. Stylish, and more interested in its Hong Kong locations than its plot.
The Butterfly Effect — Legend, 11:20pm
Ashton Kutcher, 2004. A student finds he can return to his childhood and change what happened, and every correction makes the present worse. A bleaker film than its marketing ever suggested, and a heavy note to end on.
What kind of shows are on Legend
Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots
Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.
Sci-fi, fantasy and action films
Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.
Classic genre television
Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.
How to watch Legend
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find Legend across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 41 |
| Sky | 148 |
| Virgin Media | 149 |
| Freesat | 137 |
| Freely | 38 |
No subscription is required on any of them. Virgin Media and Freesat numbers can shift depending on your box and region, so trust your on-screen guide over this table if the two disagree.
Streaming online
Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.
Legend Xtra and sister channels
Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Verdict
Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it does instead is give proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as gap-filler: cult horror, vintage American sci-fi, and the unfashionable action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries spent the 1990s making.
Friday’s daytime is a fairly typical mix for the channel: San Andreas Mega Quake either side of the midday Legend Lowdown update, then Coward of the County and Distant Drums through the afternoon. The evening belongs to the two films. Push at 9pm is the more enjoyable of them, a psychic-powers chase that cares more about Hong Kong than about explaining itself. The Butterfly Effect at 11:20pm is the harder watch, and the one more likely to stay with you: every attempt Ashton Kutcher’s student makes to fix his childhood costs him something worse in the present.
