EntertainmentLegend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Thursday keeps to that pattern, with a Bruce Willis thriller in the film slot and a 1991 gangland picture after it.

What’s on Legend today
Overnight belongs to two much older titles: Double Team at 1:40am, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s CIA man forced into an uneasy alliance with an arms dealer to save his pregnant wife from a terrorist (1997), then Oliver Reed’s breakout role in the Hammer chiller The Curse of the Werewolf at 3:30am (1961). Legend goes off air at 5:15am and stays dark until teleshopping fills the half-hour to 8am.
With only 17 programmes across the whole day, there isn’t much more daytime to speak of. Walker, Texas Ranger opens at 8am (S3E9), followed by The Six Million Dollar Man at 9am, Steve grounded from a lunar mining operation that has knocked the moon off its orbit (series 6, episode 8), and Babylon 5 at 10am, with Narn officials arriving to replace G’Kar as a mysterious probe threatens the station (S3E3). Adrian Paul’s family holiday turns into a race against an erupting Vesuvius in the 2014 disaster film Apocalypse Pompeii at 11am.
A Legend Lowdown update at 12:50pm leads into Richard Burton’s Cold War thriller The Spy Who Came in From the Cold at 1pm (1965), then Dale Robertson’s stagecoach party fends off an ambush in the 1956 western Dakota Incident at 3:15pm. Star Trek: The Original Series takes the 5pm hour (series 1, episode 16) before the evening repeat run of The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger begins at 6pm.
Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the Legend primetime line-up for tonight, Thursday 13 August 2026.
The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm
The moon-mining story picked up at 9am this morning wraps up here (series 6, episode 9), Steve finishing the job of shutting the lunar operation down before it does any further damage to the moon’s orbit.
Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm
Series three turns unsettling tonight (episode 4). One of the station’s resident monks starts having visions he can’t explain, and telepath Lyta Alexander comes home from the Vorlon homeworld noticeably changed.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm
A price goes on Cordell Walker’s head this week (series 3, episode 10), and half of Dallas fancies its chances at collecting. The hour turns into a straightforward manhunt, just with Walker as the target rather than the one doing the hunting.
Killing Field — Legend, 9pm
Bruce Willis stars in this 2021 thriller, sometimes released under the title Survive the Game, about a police drugs raid that goes wrong and ends with the officers and a stranger holed up on a remote farm, fighting off the gang responsible. It’s low-budget, direct-to-video work, the kind Willis made a lot of before he stopped acting, but the farmhouse siege setup gives it a clear structure to build on.
Mobsters — Legend, 11pm
Christian Slater plays Charlie “Lucky” Luciano in this 1991 gangster picture, tracking the young Prohibition-era mobsters, Luciano among them, as they turn on the older bosses running New York and carve the city up between themselves.
What kind of shows are on Legend
Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots
Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.
Sci-fi, fantasy and action films
Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.
Classic genre television
Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.
How to watch Legend
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find Legend across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 41 |
| Sky | 148 |
| Virgin Media | 149 |
| Freesat | 137 |
| Freely | 38 |
No subscription is required on any of them. Virgin Media and Freesat numbers can shift depending on your box and region, so trust your on-screen guide over this table if the two disagree.
Streaming online
Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.
Legend Xtra and sister channels
Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Verdict
Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it gives instead is proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as filler. Horror Channel-era chillers hold the fringes of the schedule, but most nights now belong to the action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries were making through the 1990s.
Thursday keeps to that identity throughout: American genre reruns filling the day, then Killing Field anchoring the evening as tonight’s action set piece, with the 1991 gangster picture Mobsters taking the late slot at 11pm.
