EntertainmentLegend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Tonight keeps to that pattern, running an hour each of The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger from 6pm before the 9pm film slot goes to Out of Sight, Steven Soderbergh’s 1998 heist thriller with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. Nowhere To Run, the 1993 Jean-Claude Van Damme actioner, closes out the night at 11:30pm.

What’s on Legend today
Overnight belongs to two older genre pictures: Gary Sinise stars in the Philip K Dick adaptation Impostor at 1:10am, playing a weapons designer the authorities suspect is really an alien android built to sabotage Earth’s defences (2001), then Richard Gere’s Chicago cop poses as a hitman in the 1986 thriller No Mercy at 3am, tracking down the crime boss behind his partner’s death. Legend goes off air at 5am for a half-hour break, then runs teleshopping from 5:30am until programmes resume at 8am.
With only 19 programmes across the whole day, there isn’t much more daytime to speak of. Walker, Texas Ranger opens at 8am, a million-dollar bounty drawing every criminal in Dallas out of the woodwork, followed by The Six Million Dollar Man at 9am, Steve working to shut down the operation on the moon. Babylon 5 airs at 10am, a resident monk gripped by visions as Lyta Alexander returns from the Vorlon homeworld (series 3, episode 4), then Airtight takes the 11am slot, a 1999 thriller built around a conspiracy to control a future world’s clean air supply.
A Legend Lowdown update at 12:50pm leads into Kenny Rogers’ 1985 western Wild Horses at 1pm, a sacked rodeo champion taking a job herding mustangs in Wyoming. After another Lowdown break, Luke Perry’s 2008 western The Pledge airs at 3pm, a sheriff’s hunt for his wife and son’s killer. Star Trek: The Original Series takes the 5pm hour, Spock’s shuttlecraft crashing on a hostile planet, before the evening repeat run of The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger begins at 6pm.
Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the Legend primetime line-up for tonight, Friday 14 August 2026.
The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm
Steve is dropped in as bait, the plan being to smoke out a shadowy operation that has slipped inside OSI’s own security (series 5, episode 10). It plays more as a mole-hunt than the show’s usual man-versus-machine plotting, with Steve working the case from the inside rather than against it.
Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm
A Nightwatch investigator turns up on the station determined to tighten Earth’s grip over it, while Ivanova is away trying to talk a further alien race into joining the resistance against the Shadows (series 3, episode 5). Station politics and the wider war effort get roughly equal weight this week.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm
A Japanese crime gang kidnaps a wealthy businessman’s daughter, and the Rangers head off to bring her home, picking up a blunt lesson in cross-cultural business dealings along the way (series 3, episode 11). It is a familiar rescue plot for the show, with the culture-clash angle doing most of the heavy lifting.
Out of Sight — Legend, 9pm
Steven Soderbergh directs this Elmore Leonard adaptation, casting George Clooney as a career criminal breaking out of prison and Jennifer Lopez as the federal marshal he ends up sharing a car boot with during the escape. What starts as a straightforward manhunt turns into an attraction neither of them particularly wants, and the film is better for how patiently it gets there.
Nowhere To Run — Legend, 11:30pm
Jean-Claude Van Damme plays an escaped convict trying to dig up loot he buried before his arrest, only for those plans to unravel when a widow and her children pull him into their fight against the land grabbers pushing them off their farm. He spends more of the film defending the family than chasing his own money.
What kind of shows are on Legend
Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots
Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.
Sci-fi, fantasy and action films
Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.
Classic genre television
Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.
How to watch Legend
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find Legend across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 41 |
| Sky | 148 |
| Virgin Media | 149 |
| Freesat | 137 |
| Freely | 38 |
No subscription is required on any of them. Virgin Media and Freesat numbers can shift depending on your box and region, so trust your on-screen guide over this table if the two disagree.
Streaming online
Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.
Legend Xtra and sister channels
Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Verdict
Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it gives instead is proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as filler. Horror Channel-era chillers hold the fringes of the schedule, but most nights now belong to the action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries were making through the 1990s.
Friday keeps to that identity throughout: American genre reruns filling the day, then Out of Sight anchoring the evening as tonight’s big film, with Van Damme’s Nowhere To Run taking the late slot at 11:30pm.
