EntertainmentLegend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Friday opens overnight with a fantasy sequel and a horror anthology, then threads Walker, Texas Ranger, The Six Million Dollar Man and Babylon 5 in and out of the daytime on the way to primetime. Brad Johnson and Willem Dafoe’s Vietnam War drama Flight of the Intruder headlines the evening at 9pm, followed by Michael Fassbender’s Roman actioner Centurion. Full breakdown below.

What’s on Legend today
Overnight belongs to two older genre pictures. Highlander III: The Sorcerer opens at 1:10am, Christopher Lambert’s immortal swordsman dragged back into battle when his old enemy Kane resurfaces. The House That Dripped Blood follows at 3:05am, a portmanteau horror with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in which a detective works through a set of unsettling cases, among them a waxwork with a mind of its own. Legend goes off air just before 5am and stays dark until 5:30am, then runs teleshopping until programmes resume at 8am with Walker, Texas Ranger (series three, episode fifteen), Alex taking a job interview that turns into a kidnapping and leaving Walker and Trivette to track her down.
The morning belongs to the channel’s regular daytime rotation: The Six Million Dollar Man at 9am (series five, episode fourteen) has Steve Austin up against a seemingly unstoppable machine built to flatten a city, then Babylon 5 at 10am (series three, episode nine) finds Earthforce’s president declaring martial law and riots breaking out on the station, while the widow of the last Centauri emperor pays Londo a visit. Monster Hunters fills 11am, a 2020 creature feature in which a downed alien prison ship unleashes a swarm of hostiles on the California desert.
Legend Lowdown runs its usual round-up of upcoming titles at 12:50pm, then the afternoon settles into two older war pictures. High Flight airs at 1pm, Ray Milland as a training-school commander clashing with a reckless cadet whose disregard for orders keeps putting him in danger. The Bridges at Toko-Ri follows at 2:50pm, William Holden leading a bombing run on enemy positions during the Korean War and growing increasingly uneasy about the conflict itself. Star Trek: The Original Series takes 5pm, the crew hunting for a lost starship on Beta III and finding something stranger than a rescue mission, then The Six Million Dollar Man repeats at 6pm (series five, episode fifteen) to open the run into primetime, Steve still grinding through the same juggernaut he was fighting at 9am.
Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the Legend primetime line-up for tonight, Friday 21 August 2026.
The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm
Series five, episode fifteen repeats the juggernaut story from earlier in the day, Steve Austin still trying to stop a machine engineered to level a city. A soft opener rather than a fresh instalment.
Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm
Series three, episode ten is one of the show’s genuine turning points. President Clark tightens his grip on the Earth Alliance with brutal repression, and Sheridan responds by declaring Babylon 5 independent and calling his officers to his side. Worth catching even if you don’t normally follow the run.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm
Series three, episode sixteen is the first half of a two-parter. A gang in clown masks is pulling off a run of multi-million dollar robberies, and the case turns personal after Logan, a man Walker counts as a close friend, is shot dead. Part two follows another night.
Flight of the Intruder — Legend, 9pm
Brad Johnson leads this 1990 Vietnam War picture as a Navy bomber pilot who has lost patience with the chain of command, with Willem Dafoe as the veteran bombardier who becomes his closest ally. Danny Glover plays their commanding officer. Together the two airmen go after an anti-aircraft missile site the top brass won’t authorise a strike on, forcing the issue themselves.
Centurion — Legend, 11:25pm
Michael Fassbender closes the night as a Roman centurion left alive after Pictish fighters destroy the rest of his legion somewhere in the Scottish Highlands. What follows is a rescue mission to free his captured general, stripped of anything resembling comfort or safety. A tough, muddy piece of filmmaking to end on.
What kind of shows are on Legend
Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots
Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.
Sci-fi, fantasy and action films
Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.
Classic genre television
Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.
How to watch Legend
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find Legend across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 41 |
| Sky | 148 |
| Virgin Media | 149 |
| Freesat | 137 |
| Freely | 38 |
No subscription is required on any of them. Virgin Media and Freesat numbers can shift depending on your box and region, so trust your on-screen guide over this table if the two disagree.
Streaming online
Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.
Legend Xtra and sister channels
Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Verdict
Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it gives instead is proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as filler. Horror Channel-era chillers hold the fringes of the schedule, but most nights now belong to the action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries were making through the 1990s.
Friday follows the same formula: Highlander III and The House That Dripped Blood overnight, High Flight and The Bridges at Toko-Ri splitting the afternoon between them, then The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Walker, Texas Ranger carrying the schedule into a Vietnam War drama and a Roman-era actioner by way of a nightcap. Nobody is pretending this is a discovery channel. It knows exactly what it is.
