Thursday’s overnight hours open with Blind Eye Artist at 12:20am and Matisse: The Last Masterpiece at 2am, before Stories From Tate Britain and Play In A Day take the pre-dawn slots and The Art Of Film rounds off the small hours at 5:05am. Two archaeologists working a dig in Jordan decide to smuggle a statue across the border into Israel, and the plan goes about as well as anthology drama usually allows. A tidy opener for the evening’s older material.

The follow-up flips the formula: an elderly woman catches a burglar in her home and, rather than call the police, sets out to reform him. He proves harder to persuade than she expects.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents — Sky Arts, 7pm

Triggers in Leash finds a cook caught between two armed men in a stand-off with no obvious way out for anyone in the room. This is one of the pair the listings data contradicts itself over: the schedule numbers it series 1, episode 3, while the episode’s own synopsis calls it episode 4. Either way, it runs straight into its companion piece half an hour later.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents — Sky Arts, 7:30pm

Don’t Come Back Alive has a married couple trying to defraud their insurer by having the wife declared legally dead, only for a suspicious investigator to start asking why the timing looks so convenient. Same one-episode discrepancy in the numbering as its 7pm neighbour.

Discovering: Richard Attenborough — Sky Arts, 8pm

The biography strand turns to Richard Attenborough this week, tracking a career that ran from acting roles in Brighton Rock and The Great Escape through to directing Gandhi.
