The Great British Sewing Bee – BBC One, 8pm

BBC One’s craft favourite opens reduce, reuse and recycle week, hosted by Sophie Willan with judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant. The first challenge turns old T-shirts into underwear, before oversized bows on upcycled pieces, a Shakespeare nod, and made-to-measure designs carrying an environmental message.

Hotel Chocolat Unwrapped – Channel 4, 8pm

Chocolatier Rhona wrestles with an invention that keeps failing at the testing stage, the Chocomobile truck tours the festival circuit, and the brand’s Chicago expansion hits a construction snag as its first in-store bakery opens at home.

Best Medicine – Sky One, 8pm

Martin Clunes joins as Robert, father of lead physician Martin, played by Josh Charles. Robert is a doctor himself, but his son starts treating him as a patient after noticing him nodding off mid-conversation, with old family grief resurfacing.

The Vampire Lestat: Interview with the Vampire – BBC Two, 9pm ⭐

This is the night’s real event. Season three switches perspective onto Sam Reid’s Lestat, opening in an unspecified future where his belongings, including the debut album he cut with his old band, go up for auction after an unnamed catastrophe. Jacob Anderson’s Louis and Assad Zaman’s Armand are apparently among the bidders, which is reason enough to tune in.

Murder 24/7 – BBC One, 9pm

This case goes back to a delivery driver beaten to death by a gang armed with an axe, a shovel and a hockey stick. Five men were convicted, but four remain missing, and DCI Mark Bellamy’s team spend tonight piecing together doorbell and station CCTV. A late breakthrough suggests at least one has left the country.

Cold Case Forensics: The Death of God’s Banker – ITV1, 9pm

Forensic scientist Angela Gallop returns to the case that made her name. Roberto Calvi, the Vatican-linked banker whose collapsed empire stretched into the Mafia and an international masonic lodge, was found hanging beneath Blackfriars Bridge in June 1982 with stones and cash in his pockets. His family, unconvinced by the suicide and open verdicts, brought Gallop back in.

The Undeclared War – Channel 4, 9pm

Tonight’s flashback episode fills in what led up to last week’s big reveal, built almost entirely around Siân Brooke, who gets a standalone story with the feel of an old-fashioned spy thriller. Writer Colin Teevan uses the change of pace well.

Oti and Richard’s South African Odyssey – More4, 9pm

Oti Mabuse and Richard Coles carry on their tour, Oti in a T-shirt reading Attract Positive Energy, taking in a paint-drying workshop, a go at sand sculpting and an Indian market. The stranger stop is a spiritual guide claiming to channel a message from Oti’s late grandmother.

Gomorrah – The Origins – Sky Atlantic, 9pm & 10:05pm

This prequel rewinds Gomorrah to impoverished northern Naples in 1977. Future crime boss Pietro Savastano is one of a pack of teenage boys working out what becoming a gangster actually takes, so far stripping cars for parts and hero-worshipping local fixer Angelo. Once Angelo’s grip starts to slip, Pietro spots an opening. Now.

Late Night

The New Boy – BBC Two, 11:05pm

Warwick Thornton’s 1940s-set fantasy closes out the night, following an Aboriginal boy delivered by monks to a remote monastery, where his unexplained abilities start to unsettle Cate Blanchett’s renegade nun. Thornton spent 18 years sitting on the script after his own experience at a monk-run boarding school, and only finished it once Blanchett signed on, at which point he swapped the story’s priest for a nun. Four stars, certificate 12.

Sport

Day five of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow runs most of the day, with coverage across TNT Sports 2 from 8:30am, TNT Sports 3 from 9:45am, BBC Alba from 5:30pm and S4C from 8pm, plus Channel 5 highlights at 10pm. Tennis fans get day two of the Washington DC Open on Sky Sports Tennis from 4pm and Sky Sports Main Event from 11pm.
