E4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. There’s no Hollyoaks on Saturday 29 August 2026 — the first-look run doesn’t reach the weekend at all — so the evening belongs to two films instead. Home Alone runs from 4:35pm to 6:45pm, holding most of the 6pm hour, before The Devil Wears Prada takes over through to 9pm. Celebrity Gogglebox, a separate programme with its own celebrity line-up, opens the 9pm hour, and two episodes of the regular Gogglebox close out the night at 10pm and 11:05pm. Overnight opens with a Gogglebox repeat at 1:50am (series 22), then Ladies of London: The New Reign at 2:50am — its fifth episode, despite a “Brand new series” label the feed has mistakenly attached to it — and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA at 3:40am. The Goldbergs and two episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine carry the graveyard shift through to 6am.

There’s no Hollyoaks anywhere on E4 today — the first-look run is Monday to Wednesday and doesn’t reach Saturday in any slot. Breakfast opens with Lego Masters Australia at 6am, then two episodes of Below Deck Down Under at 7:05am and 8am (both also carry a misapplied “Brand new series” flag; neither is actually a launch).

Five episodes of The Simpsons, all from series 6, run from 8:55am to 11:20am, then Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA returns for a second airing. Antz takes the early-afternoon slot at 12:25pm, and a second run of five Simpsons episodes — series 11 this time, three decades on from the morning’s series 6 run — carries the schedule from 2pm to 4:35pm and into the start of the evening.

Here’s the E4 primetime line-up for tonight, Saturday 29 August 2026. There’s no Hollyoaks today — the first-look run doesn’t reach Saturday — so the evening is built around two films and the Gogglebox strand instead.

Home Alone — E4, 4:35pm

Home Alone gets going well before the traditional primetime start and quietly eats most of the 6pm hour, running two hours ten minutes and finishing just as The Devil Wears Prada begins.

The Devil Wears Prada — E4, 6:45pm

The Devil Wears Prada picks up where Home Alone leaves off, running through to 9pm and covering the whole of the traditional 7pm slot.

Celebrity Gogglebox — E4, 9pm

Celebrity Gogglebox opens the 9pm hour with its own celebrity line-up, distinct from the household regulars who take over an hour later. This is series 8, episode 1.

Gogglebox — E4, 10pm

The ordinary sofa-based format returns at 10pm for series 23, episode 8, the first of two instalments back to back.

Gogglebox — E4, 11:05pm

Series 23 continues straight into episode 9, closing out E4’s evening just after 11pm.

Reality

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

E4 streams live and on demand for free through Channel 4’s app and channel4.com, covering smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and most streaming sticks. Registration is free and asks for no payment details. Adverts play regardless. E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family

E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.
