EntertainmentE4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. Wednesday 2 September 2026 is one of those first-look nights, and the last of the week — the 6am and 6:30am repeats are catch-up, there is no Omnibus today, and the genuinely new episode holds its regular 7pm slot before the strand takes tomorrow off. The evening then runs Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s third episode at 7:30pm, followed by two US reality strands back to back: Ladies of London: The New Reign at 8pm and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA at 9pm, before Gogglebox and First Dates close the night. Daytime is dominated by eight Simpsons episodes across two separate runs, each shown in strict order, either side of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA, America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Goldbergs and Modern Family.

What’s on E4 today
Overnight opens with Naked Attraction just after midnight, then Below Deck Down Under, Ladies of London: The New Reign and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA before two Goldbergs episodes, Brooklyn Nine-Nine at 5:10am and Modern Family at 5:35am. Two Hollyoaks catch-up episodes follow at 6am and 6:30am — not new — ahead of a brief Rude(ish) Tube Shorts and Couples Come Dine with Me at 7am. There is no Omnibus today.
Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA runs twice from 8am, then America’s Funniest Home Videos twice from 10am. The Simpsons dominates the afternoon: four episodes from 12pm, series 27 episodes 11 to 14 shown in strict order, followed by two episodes of The Goldbergs from its debut series and four of Modern Family through to 4:30pm.
Early evening brings four more Simpsons episodes back to back from 5pm — series 33 episodes 11 to 14, again in order, two of them (6pm and 6:30pm) sitting in primetime — eight Simpsons episodes across the day in total, and both blocks a genuine consecutive run.
E4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the E4 primetime line-up for tonight, Wednesday 2 September 2026.
The Simpsons — E4, 6pm
E4’s afternoon Simpsons run reaches primetime here. Episode 13 of series 33 is the third instalment in a genuine four-episode block that began at 5pm, all shown in production order, with one more to come at 6:30pm before Hollyoaks takes over.
The Simpsons — E4, 6:30pm
The fourth and final part of that run, series 33 episode 14 closes out the Simpsons block that has carried E4 from 5pm straight into primetime, immediately ahead of tonight’s first-look Hollyoaks at 7pm.
Hollyoaks — E4, 7pm
The 7pm hour belongs to Hollyoaks (a new episode, series 2026, episode 105).
Brooklyn Nine-Nine — E4, 7:30pm
“The Slump” is only the third episode the sitcom ever made, from a freshman run E4 cycles through daily long after the show wrapped its US network run. It’s an early look at the Nine-Nine precinct before the cast dynamics that carried the series through eight seasons had fully settled in.
Ladies of London: The New Reign — E4, 8pm
At 8pm, it’s Ladies of London: The New Reign, series four’s eighth episode. The group heads to Longleat House, where Mark-Francis and Margo are still at loggerheads.
Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA — E4, 9pm
The 9pm hour belongs to Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA, series three episode two — the “4 Star Diner” edition, in which Gordon confronts owner Gus’s behaviour.
Gogglebox — E4, 10pm
The sofa critics turn their attention to Banged Up, Planet Earth and Bake Off in series 22 episode 10. It’s the first of three Goggleboxes on tonight’s schedule across E4 and sister channel 4seven, each pulled from a different series, so viewers flicking between the two will see three separate panels reacting to three separate weeks of telly, not one episode repeated.
First Dates — E4, 11pm
Series 19 opens the night off with its first episode, an archive series rather than a new commission — E4 is working back through an older run of the dating format, not launching a fresh batch of daters.
Popular shows on E4
Reality
Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.
Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.
Soap
Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.
US comedy
The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.
How to watch E4
Channel numbers
Where to find E4 by platform:
| Platform | Channel Number |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 13 |
| Sky (Q, Stream, Glass) | 135 |
| Virgin Media / Freesat | Check your on-screen guide |
E4 is free-to-air everywhere. A Freeview aerial carries it, and so does every Sky package as standard.
Streaming
E4 streams live and on demand for free through Channel 4’s app and channel4.com, covering smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and most streaming sticks. Registration is free and asks for no payment details. Adverts play regardless. The full E4 library is there as well, including complete runs of Married at First Sight Australia and MAFS UK, and Hollyoaks as catch-up after transmission.
E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family
E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.
E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.
Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.
Frequently asked questions
What’s on E4 tonight?
Tonight is a genuine Hollyoaks first-look night — the new episode holds its regular 7pm slot, built around Gemma’s sinister plan moving forward, Mercedes, Leela and Ste heading off to a spa, and Lucas left with some explaining to do. It is also the last first-look of the week, since the strand does not return to E4 until Monday. Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows at 7:30pm with its third episode. Ladies of London: The New Reign at 8pm and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA at 9pm run the reality hour, before Gogglebox at 10pm and First Dates at 11pm close out the night. Times are in the schedule table above.
Does E4 have adverts?
Yes. It is a commercial channel, so ad breaks run on linear TV and on the streaming free tier alike. No licence fee, no subscription. Record it on a PVR and you can skip them as usual.
When did E4 launch?
E4 launched on 18 January 2001 as a companion to Channel 4, aimed at younger viewers from day one. It began as a subscription service, later went free-to-air, and reached Freeview in May 2005.
Verdict
Wednesday brings E4’s regular first-look slot, and the last one this week: Hollyoaks holds 7pm with a genuinely new episode, while the two earlier showings, at 6am and 6:30am, are catch-up only and there is no Omnibus today. The strand does not return to E4 until Monday. Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s 7:30pm slot is its third episode. The reality hour either side of 8pm — Ladies of London: The New Reign, then Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA — carries mid-series episodes despite each one’s synopsis claiming a “brand new series”. Gogglebox and First Dates close the night as usual.
Daytime is built around eight Simpsons episodes split across two separate runs, either side of a Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA double, two Goldbergs episodes from its debut series and four of Modern Family running into early evening.
