At 9pm, Venom: Let There Be Carnage brings back Tom Hardy as journalist-turned-host Eddie Brock, pitted against Woody Harrelson’s serial killer Cletus Kasady, who becomes the symbiote Carnage. Andy Serkis’s 2021 sequel is the shortest of tonight’s four films, in and out inside two hours.

Daredevil — Film4, 10:50pm

I rate Film4, with reservations. The 9pm slot and the run after 11pm are what keep me coming back: recent releases, the odd Productions title, and foreign-language cinema you’d rarely stumble across on any other free channel. Daytime is mostly the same forty-odd Hollywood titles on rotation, and the ad breaks mid-film wear thin some nights.

Tonight leans towards comic-book adaptations, and it’s four films with no gaps, running from 5pm through to nearly 1am. The Gunfighter opens with Gregory Peck at his most world-weary, a proper counterweight to what follows. Uncharted and Venom: Let There Be Carnage back to back at 6:45pm and 9pm are the pair most people will actually sit down for — Holland and Wahlberg’s treasure hunt, then Hardy’s Eddie Brock squaring off against Harrelson’s Carnage. Daredevil closing the night from 10:50pm is the oldest of the Marvel pair, and Affleck’s version has aged more unevenly than Venom, but it’s still worth staying up for.
