Overnight opens with a Naked Attraction repeat just after midnight, then a Gogglebox rerun, a Below Deck Down Under repeat and a Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA episode carry the small hours, before a run of Simpsons, Goldbergs and Brooklyn Nine-Nine episodes fill the gap to breakfast. Two Modern Family episodes open breakfast proper at 6am and 6:30am, followed by Couples Come Dine with Me and a Ramsay’s Hotel Hell double bill either side of 9am.

America’s Funniest Home Videos and a Below Deck Down Under repeat take the late morning. The Simpsons opens the afternoon with four episodes back to back, before The Goldbergs and a four-episode run of Modern Family carry through to early evening, when The Simpsons returns for another four editions running up to primetime.

The Simpsons — E4, 6pm to 7pm

Three episodes back to back open the evening, running through the family’s usual chaos across three different vintages of the show (series 11, episodes 16 and 17, then series 14, episode 15) before the sitcom hour proper begins.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine — E4, 7:30pm

The Nine-Nine squad’s early run gets an outing (series 1, episode 14), still finding its feet compared with the show’s later seasons but recognisably the same cast.

Below Deck Down Under — E4, 8pm

A new episode has a crew shake-up shaking up life aboard the Katina. It’s the latest instalment of a returning series rather than a fresh format (series 4, episode 4).

Gogglebox — E4, 9pm and 10pm

Two editions run back to back, the sofa critics working through recent television including Game of Talents, Line of Duty and Snackmasters (series 17, episodes 9 and 10).

First Dates — E4, 11:05pm

Tonight’s pairing includes a woman who loves swimming with sharks matched with a man who has a phobia of butterflies, closing out the night (series 23, episode 4).

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded.
