EntertainmentGREAT! TV is a free-to-air channel that lives on vintage British and American drama and sitcoms, and it sits at Freeview 34 with three sister channels for company. It has been through four names and one full closure since Sony launched it in 2011; Narrative Entertainment has run it since 2021.
Tonight, Saturday 22 August 2026, Little House on the Prairie’s marathon daytime run closes out the 6pm hour with its ninth and final episode of the day, before two episodes of The Waltons take primetime at 7pm and 8pm. At 9pm the schedule turns to All Creatures Great and Small, the 1975 drama pairing Simon Ward’s newly qualified vet with Anthony Hopkins as his gruff senior partner in the Yorkshire Dales. A short Good News on GREAT! bulletin breaks in at 9:52pm; the film resumes moments later and runs through to 10:55pm, when two episodes of Man About the House take the schedule to midnight, closed out by Robin’s Nest at 11:55pm.

What’s on GREAT! TV today
Saturday’s daytime belongs almost entirely to one show. Little House on the Prairie runs nine consecutive episodes from 9:20am through to 6pm, series three working through episodes six, seven, nine and ten to fifteen (episode eight is skipped by the schedule). It’s interrupted only once, by a Good News on GREAT! Extra bulletin at 9:10am, and the run itself carries straight through lunch and into early evening before handing over to primetime.
Before that, the overnight run opens with three episodes of M*A*S*H either side of midnight, followed by a single episode of Rising Damp and a repeat of Man About the House. Highway to Heaven doubles up from 3am, each of its two episodes followed by a Good News on GREAT! Extra bulletin. TJC’s teleshopping then holds the schedule from 5am to 8am, with one more Highway to Heaven episode at 8:10am ahead of the Little House on the Prairie marathon taking over at 9:20am.
GREAT! TV tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the GREAT! TV primetime line-up for tonight, Saturday 22 August 2026.
Little House on the Prairie — GREAT! TV, 6pm
The ninth and last instalment of today’s Little House on the Prairie run lands at 6pm (series 3, episode 15), closing out a stretch that has occupied the channel since 9:20 this morning.
The Waltons — GREAT! TV, 7pm and 8pm
Two back-to-back episodes carry The Waltons through primetime’s opening hour, series seven, episodes four and five. It’s the gentlest hour of the evening before the schedule turns to something with a bit more edge at 9pm.
All Creatures Great and Small — GREAT! TV, 9pm
All Creatures Great and Small, the 1975 big-screen version of James Herriot’s Yorkshire vet memoirs, takes the whole of the 9 o’clock hour. Simon Ward plays the newly qualified Herriot, thrown in at the deep end by Anthony Hopkins’s short-tempered senior partner Siegfried Farnon. A five-minute Good News on GREAT! bulletin splits the film at 9:52pm, but it’s one continuous screening either side of the break, picking straight back up and running through to 10:55pm.
Man About the House — GREAT! TV, 10:55pm and 11:25pm
A pair of episodes closes out the sitcom side of the evening, series six, episodes two and three, before the last programme of the night takes over.
Robin’s Nest — GREAT! TV, 11:55pm
Robin’s Nest, the Man About the House spin-off that moved Richard O’Sullivan’s character into his own restaurant, closes the schedule at 11:55pm (series 3, episode 9).
What kind of shows are on GREAT! TV
American family drama and rural nostalgia
Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons and Highway to Heaven carry the daytime hours, and two of the three are largely Michael Landon’s doing. He starred in and directed much of Little House, and created Highway to Heaven outright. The register barely shifts between them: slow, sincere, usually ending on a lesson learned.
British classic drama and sitcom
The British side is thinner but sharper. Ballykissangel and Doctor Finlay handle the gentle end. Rising Damp handles the other, with Leonard Rossiter’s Rigsby prowling a shabby Yorkshire bedsit house being appalling about more or less everything.
Stripped US sitcoms and evening films
M*A*S*H is the one the channel leans on hardest, sometimes ten episodes deep in a single night. Films turn up most evenings (disaster pictures, old British comedies) and the seams get filled with Air Rescue and the short Good News on GREAT! bulletins.

What’s on GREAT! TV tonight?
Tonight, Saturday 22 August 2026, Little House on the Prairie’s nine-episode run closes at 6pm (series 3, episode 15). Two episodes of The Waltons follow at 7pm and 8pm (series 7, episodes 4 and 5), then the 1975 drama All Creatures Great and Small, starring Simon Ward and Anthony Hopkins, takes the 9pm slot, interrupted by a short Good News on GREAT! bulletin at 9:52pm before resuming and running to 10:55pm. Two episodes of Man About the House and a closing episode of Robin’s Nest see out the night.
Why does GREAT! TV show so much M*A*S*H?
Because 251 episodes across eleven seasons is enough to strip nightly for years without a viewer noticing the loop. The channel applies the same maths to Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons and Highway to Heaven during the day.
Is GREAT! TV free to watch, and does it carry adverts?
Yes, entirely free on Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and Freely, with no subscription. It is funded by advertising, which is also why the short Good News on GREAT! bulletins turn up between programmes.
Who owns GREAT! TV?
Narrative Entertainment UK Limited. It launched as Sony Entertainment Television in 2011, became Sony Channel in 2016, shut down in 2018, came back in 2019, and took the GREAT! TV name in May 2021 after Narrative Capital bought Sony’s UK free-to-air channels.

Yes, through Great! Player at great-player.com, with apps on Freeview Play, YouView, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account is needed.
Verdict
GREAT! TV knows precisely who is watching and rarely deviates from what keeps them there.
Saturday’s daytime is the most repetitive of the week: nine straight episodes of Little House on the Prairie occupy nearly nine hours before primetime even starts. The evening loosens up a little once that run ends at 6pm — two episodes of The Waltons, then a proper film in All Creatures Great and Small at 9pm, split by a short news bulletin, before Man About the House and Robin’s Nest close the night. It is still a schedule built on repetition rather than variety, and it still works for the audience GREAT! TV is chasing.
