Legend TV Guide: Listings, Schedule & What’s On Legend Tonight

ChannelsDaily TV Guide
Tonight at a Glance 5 programmes · 6pm–1am

Legend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Wednesday opens overnight with a medieval revenge drama and a folklore horror, then runs a full weekday shift of Walker, Texas Ranger, The Six Million Dollar Man and Babylon 5 before a run of adventure films — a fantasy quest, a shark thriller and a lost-world dinosaur romp — fills the afternoon. The same three genre-TV strands repeat into the evening ahead of the 2017 heist thriller The Shanghai Job at 9pm and the war thriller Ambush closing the night. Full breakdown below.

What’s on Legend today

Overnight is two films back to back. Last Knights opens at 1:05am, the 2015 medieval drama that borrows the shape of the 47 Ronin story and puts Clive Owen’s disgraced commander on a revenge mission after Morgan Freeman’s nobleman is executed by a corrupt empire. The Golem follows at 3:15am, a supernatural horror drawing on the Jewish folklore of a clay protector summoned to defend a threatened village. Legend goes off air just after 5am and stays dark until 5:30am, then runs teleshopping until programmes resume properly at 8am.

Breakfast and the morning are a run of genre television. Walker, Texas Ranger opens the day at 8am, before The Six Million Dollar Man returns at 9am in a different episode from tonight’s 6pm outing. Babylon 5 takes 10am. Sinbad and the War of the Furies closes out the morning at 11am, a 2016 fantasy adventure in which the legendary adventurer accidentally frees three ancient, vengeful beings and has to destroy them before they can do the same to everyone around him.

Legend Lowdown, a short look ahead at the month’s upcoming films and series, breaks up the schedule at 12:50pm and again at 2:50pm. Two films carry the afternoon either side of it: the shark thriller Shark! from 1pm, and 1975’s The Land That Time Forgot from 3pm, the Amicus adventure in which the survivors of a torpedoed ship find their way to a hidden continent still ruled by dinosaurs.

Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

Here’s the Legend primetime line-up for tonight, Wednesday 26 August 2026.

Star Trek: The Original Series — Legend, 5pm

The original 1960s crew opens primetime at 5pm, ahead of an evening built almost entirely around long-running genre television.

The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm

Tonight’s episode is series five’s “The Madonna Caper”, a different instalment from the one Legend aired in the same show’s 9am slot this morning.

Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm

7pm brings one of the show’s best-remembered instalments: “A Late Delivery from Avalon”, with Michael York guesting as a man who turns up on the station insisting he is King Arthur, returned from Avalon. He talks his way into an unlikely friendship with the Narn ambassador G’Kar before the station’s medical staff establish who he really is.

Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm

The 8pm hour is “Blue Movies”, pulled from the show’s second season — earlier in the run than the format Chuck Norris’s Texas Ranger would settle into for most of the show’s nine years on air.

The Shanghai Job — Legend, 9pm

Orlando Bloom leads the 2017 action thriller The Shanghai Job, running to 11pm. He plays a disgraced security contractor trying to rebuild his reputation by escorting a valuable Chinese antique out of Shanghai, only for the job to go wrong when his convoy is ambushed and the woman he loves is taken. The film also goes by S.M.A.R.T. Chase outside the UK, so don’t be thrown if the title looks unfamiliar elsewhere.

Ambush — Legend, 11pm

Legend closes the night with Ambush, a 2023 Vietnam War thriller starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Connor Paolo and Aaron Eckhart as soldiers sent to retrieve intelligence materials who run into Viet Cong forces dug into an underground tunnel network.

What kind of shows are on Legend

Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots

Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.

Sci-fi, fantasy and action films

Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.

Classic genre television

Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.

How to watch Legend

Channel numbers

Here’s where to find Legend across the main UK television platforms:

Platform Channel
Freeview 41
Sky 148
Virgin Media 149
Freesat 137
Freely 38

No subscription is required on any of them. Virgin Media and Freesat numbers can shift depending on your box and region, so trust your on-screen guide over this table if the two disagree.

Streaming online

Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.

Legend Xtra and sister channels

Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.

Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, entirely. There are advert breaks during films and between programmes, but no subscription fee on any platform.

It launched in 2004 as The Horror Channel, briefly became Zone Horror in 2006, reverted to Horror Channel in 2010, and became Legend on 30 June 2022.

Yes, live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, no account needed.

Verdict

Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it gives instead is proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as filler. Horror Channel-era chillers hold the fringes of the schedule, but most nights now belong to the action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries were making through the 1990s.

Wednesday runs the same shape on different stock: two overnight films, a morning of Walker, Texas Ranger, The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and a fantasy adventure, then a shark thriller and a dinosaur romp before the evening repeats those same genre-TV strands into an Orlando Bloom heist thriller and a late-night Vietnam War actioner. Nobody is pretending this is a discovery channel. It knows exactly what it is.

TV Radar Team is the byline on TV Radar's automatically generated TV guides — covering BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and beyond. Each evening's schedule is built from the published listings (titles, start times, run lengths and episode numbers) and checked against our listings data before publication, so you can decide in two minutes what to record and what to skip. These guides are generated automatically rather than written by hand; a human editor spot-checks them, but not every page is read before it goes live. Based in London, updated every day.
