EntertainmentMore4 is Channel 4’s factual and lifestyle channel: property shows, food formats and the fly-on-the-wall documentaries that would crowd out the main channel’s schedule. It launched on 10 October 2005 and has been free to air since 6 May 2008, when it dropped the subscription requirement it had briefly carried on satellite. Wednesday’s full listings are below, with channel numbers further down the page.

What’s on More4 today
Wednesday’s More4 schedule runs to 28 slots built from a dozen different programmes, with two long Four in a Bed blocks doing most of the heavy lifting before the evening turns to cars, a self-build and a rail journey through Roman history.
Overnight opens with 999: On the Front Line just after midnight, then two back-to-back editions of 24 Hours in A&E from 1:15am, The Perfect Pitch at 3:20am and a long stretch of Discover Must Have Ideas: Shopping carrying the channel through to breakfast. Find It, Fix It, Flog It closes out the morning at 8:55am.
Four in a Bed then runs in two separate five-episode blocks rather than one long stretch. The first, series 12, fills the late morning from 10am and reaches its own payment day at 12:10pm. Five episodes of Come Dine with Me follow from 12:40pm, before a second Four in a Bed run — series 19 this time — takes over from 3:20pm and closes on its own payment-day episode at 5:20pm. Car S.O.S picks up straight after and runs the schedule into the primetime line-up below.
More4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the More4 primetime line-up for tonight, Wednesday 26 August 2026.
Car S.O.S — More4, 5:50pm
Car S.O.S opens the evening at 5:50pm (series 6, episode 4), running through to 6:50pm.
Car S.O.S — More4, 6:50pm
A second Car S.O.S follows at 6:50pm (series 6, episode 6).
Grand Designs — More4, 7:55pm
Grand Designs returns at 7:55pm (series 21, episode 5) to follow a Cumbrian couple taking on a 200-year-old blacking mill, turning the old industrial shell into a family home while wrestling with the building’s age and its awkward, narrow footprint.
Roman Empire by Train with Alice Roberts — More4, 9pm
The 9pm hour belongs to Roman Empire by Train with Alice Roberts (series 1, episode 4). Alice Roberts finds ancient gems in Parma, learns about Roman bread in Turin, then takes a train across the Alps.
24 Hours in A&E — More4, 10pm
More4 closes the night with a double dose of 24 Hours in A&E from 10pm, the long-running documentary strand that fixes cameras around a major trauma centre and follows whichever cases come through the doors that day, from paramedics on the road to the surgeons who take over once patients reach resus.
24 Hours in A&E — More4, 11:05pm
The second edition (series 10, episode 18) follows straight on at 11:05pm, sticking with the same fixed-rig format rather than starting a fresh story strand.
What kind of shows are on More4
Fly-on-the-wall documentary
This is the strand More4 is known for. 24 Hours in A&E and 999: On the Front Line both use the same method: fixed cameras, real emergencies, no reconstructions. Neither has changed that formula in over a decade of running.
Property and food formats
A Place in the Sun and Come Dine with Me anchor the daytime and early-evening schedule. One is about the fantasy of starting again somewhere warmer; the other is about strangers cooking for each other and being far too honest about the results. Four in a Bed does the same job for the B&B trade. Between them they account for most of what More4 broadcasts before 6pm.
Imported drama and classic comedy
More4 also fills gaps with imported crime drama, a fair amount of Nordic noir, and repeats from Channel 4’s own sitcom back-catalogue. It’s schedule filler between the factual strands rather than anything the channel commissions for itself.
How to watch More4
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find More4 across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 18 |
| Sky (England, Wales, NI) | 136 |
| Sky (Scotland) | 137 |
| Virgin Media | 147 |
| Virgin Media +1 | 347 |
| Freesat | 124 |
More4 is free on all of the above, with no subscription required.
Streaming online
More4 streams live and free at channel4.com/now/m4 and via the Channel 4 app on smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and PlayStation. You’ll need a free Channel 4 account, which costs nothing to set up. Recent episodes of most More4 shows are also available to watch on demand through Channel 4’s streaming platform shortly after broadcast.
More4 +1 and sister channels
More4 +1 runs the schedule an hour behind on Virgin Media, channel 347, but was withdrawn from Freeview back in June 2022. If you miss the start of something on Freeview, the Channel 4 on-demand service is the more reliable way to catch up.
More4 sits alongside Channel 4’s other free channels: the main Channel 4 service, E4 (entertainment and US imports), Film4 (movies) and 4seven (catch-up repeats).
Frequently asked questions
What’s on More4 tonight?
Tonight, Wednesday 26 August 2026, Car S.O.S opens the evening with back-to-back restorations from 5:50pm, Grand Designs follows at 7:55pm, and Roman Empire by Train with Alice Roberts takes the 9pm slot. Two further editions of 24 Hours in A&E close out the night at 10pm and 11:05pm. Full times are in the schedule table above.
What time do the main documentaries start on More4?
More4’s documentary strands usually sit between 9pm and 11pm, after the property shows have had the earlier part of the evening. A new series launch or a one-off special can push that earlier, so check the on-screen guide if the evening looks different from usual.
Is More4 free to watch?
Yes, completely free on Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat, with advertising breaks but no subscription fee.
Can I watch More4 online for free?
Yes. It streams live at channel4.com/now/m4 and through the Channel 4 app; you’ll need a free Channel 4 account. Most recent episodes also appear on demand shortly after broadcast.
Verdict
More4 doesn’t try to be flashy, and that’s the point. It’s where Channel 4 parks programming that works without gimmicks: a B&B owner docking marks over a soggy fry-up, or two mechanics coaxing a rusting classic back onto the road. The daytime schedule leans on the same recycled formats every day, and Wednesday is no exception — a dozen unique titles fill 28 slots, with Four in a Bed alone running through two separate five-episode blocks either side of Come Dine with Me.
Tonight’s primetime keeps the channel’s factual identity front and centre: Car S.O.S runs two restorations back to back from 5:50pm, Grand Designs follows a self-build at 7:55pm, and Alice Roberts takes the 9pm hour for a rail journey through Roman history in Roman Empire by Train. Two further editions of 24 Hours in A&E close out the night from 10pm, More4’s most consistent performer doing what it always does.
