EntertainmentLegend is what the old Horror Channel turned into after its 2022 rebrand: still free to air, still fond of a monster, but now handing most of its evenings to sci-fi, fantasy and action cinema. Monday opens overnight with John Carpenter’s They Live and the martial arts favourite Best of the Best, then a run of vintage American genre TV – Walker, Texas Ranger, The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5 and Star Trek – carries the day around a doubled-up showing of The Poseidon Adventure and the jet thriller Stealth. The evening repeats two of that daytime TV run before a Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie action-comedy and a Tim Roth thriller close out the night. Full breakdown below.

What’s on Legend today
Overnight is a double bill of well-known genre films rather than a franchise pairing. They Live opens at 1:15am, John Carpenter’s 1988 satire in which Roddy Piper’s drifter stumbles on a pair of sunglasses that expose the aliens living among ordinary people and the subliminal commands plastered across every billboard. Best of the Best follows at 3:10am, the 1989 martial arts drama with Eric Roberts as a US karate team member coached by James Earl Jones ahead of a tournament against South Korea. Legend goes off air just after 5am and stays dark until 5:30am, then runs teleshopping until programmes resume at 8am.
Daytime is largely vintage American genre television. Walker, Texas Ranger opens the schedule proper at 8am, followed by The Six Million Dollar Man at 9am and an episode of Babylon 5 at 10am. The Poseidon Adventure then takes over from 11am, shown twice back to back through to 2:35pm, before the jet-fighter thriller Stealth (2005), with Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx, fills the rest of the afternoon to 5pm. Star Trek – The Original Series closes out the daytime run at 5pm, ahead of the evening line-up below.
Legend tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Legend’s Monday evening is built almost entirely from its own daytime strands, run back through primetime, before it hands over to two feature films to close the night.
The Six Million Dollar Man — Legend, 6pm
Steve Austin takes on a supercomputer that has broken into secret government files, an early case for TV’s original bionic agent. A note on the number: Legend’s feed labels this episode series 5, but its own plot summary describes it as series 6 – a mismatch that runs right through the day, including the identical episode’s earlier 9am showing. Rather than print a figure we can’t stand behind, we’ve named it by what actually happens.
Babylon 5 — Legend, 7pm
Series three, episode sixteen, and the one entry tonight where Legend’s numbering and its own synopsis actually agree. Commander Sinclair returns to the station with news about the vanished Babylon 4, unsettling a crew already stretched thin by the war against the Shadows.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Legend, 8pm
A prospector is killed over treasure buried since the 1860s, and Walker turns to the ghost of Ranger Hays Cooper for guidance, in the first half of a two-part story. As with the 6pm slot, Legend’s feed and its own synopsis disagree on the series number by exactly one, so we’ve dropped it rather than pick a side. Two independent listings guides checked against tonight’s grid describe the same plot but don’t agree with each other or the feed on a number either, which only reinforces the call to leave it out.
Mr & Mrs Smith — Legend, 9pm
The 2005 action-comedy takes the film slot from 9pm to 11:30pm. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a married couple who discover, to their mutual alarm, that they’ve each been keeping the same secret: they’re rival assassins, hired by competing agencies to kill each other. Doug Liman directs, with Vince Vaughn and Adam Brody in support.
The Hitman’s Apprentice — Legend, 11:30pm
Legend closes the night with this 2013 British thriller, also released under the title The Liability. Tim Roth plays an ageing hitman saddled with a reluctant young driver, played by Jack O’Connell, after a routine job for his mother’s gangster boyfriend goes somewhere much darker.
What kind of shows are on Legend
Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots
Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.
Sci-fi, fantasy and action films
Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated. Film4 has the recent theatrical releases covered. Legend is working two or three decades earlier, and there is less competition for that ground than you would think.
Classic genre television
Very few channels still hand hours to vintage American genre TV. Legend does. The Twilight Zone runs as a nightly double bill, and Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man fill most weekday daytimes.
How to watch Legend
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find Legend across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 41 |
| Sky | 148 |
| Virgin Media | 149 |
| Freesat | 137 |
| Freely | 38 |
No subscription is required on any of them. Virgin Media and Freesat numbers can shift depending on your box and region, so trust your on-screen guide over this table if the two disagree.
Streaming online
Legend streams live and free through the WatchFreeUK app, available on Freeview Play, Freesat and YouView, and as a download on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. No account or sign-up is required, which is more than can be said for most of its rivals. The catch-up section carries a selection of recently broadcast programmes, but licensing means not everything that airs stays available, and windows vary by title.
Legend Xtra and sister channels
Legend Xtra launched on 1 July 2022 as HorrorXtra and took its current name in a November 2023 refresh. Same broad mix of action, sci-fi and horror, free on Freeview channel 69, Sky 317, Virgin Media 171, Freesat 138 and Freely 51, with a +1 timeshift on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
Both channels belong to the CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership, a joint venture between Paramount Networks UK & Australia and AMC Networks International UK. True Crime and True Crime Xtra come from the same stable and sit alongside them in the WatchFreeUK app.

Verdict
Legend is not chasing prestige and would look daft if it tried. What it gives instead is proper scheduled hours to material other free channels treat as filler. Horror Channel-era chillers hold the fringes of the schedule, but most nights now belong to the action cinema Van Damme and his contemporaries were making through the 1990s.
Monday runs the same idea on different stock: an overnight double bill of well-known genre films, a daytime built from Legend’s own vintage American TV strands and a doubled-up disaster movie, then an evening that repeats three of those daytime series before handing over to two very different films – a big studio action-comedy and a small British crime thriller – back to back. Nobody is pretending this is a discovery channel. It knows exactly what it is.
