Overnight brings two crime films rather than a genre double bill. Lionheart, with Jean-Claude Van Damme as a French Foreign Legionnaire who goes AWOL to fight in illegal bare-knuckle bouts and send money home to his brother’s family, opens at 1:15am, followed by Paul Schrader’s crime thriller Dog Eat Dog at 3:15am, following three ex-convicts through a kidnapping job that unravels fast. Legend goes off air just after 5am, with a card announcing programmes resume at 5:30am, then runs teleshopping until the schedule proper starts at 8am.

Daytime opens with the first half of a Walker, Texas Ranger story at 8am: an assassin has kidnapped a presidential candidate and Walker sets off after him alone, with the concluding part waiting in tonight’s line-up. The 8pm hour brings the concluding half of the two-part story that opened Legend’s day at 8am: an assassin has kidnapped a presidential candidate, and Walker goes after him alone. It’s the season finale.

Blunt Force Trauma (2015): a fighter working the illegal underground gun-fighting circuit gets pulled into helping a woman track down whoever killed her brother, and neither the fights nor the payback play out cleanly.

Cult horror and its Horror Channel roots

Horror hasn’t been dropped, just demoted. Amicus and Hammer-adjacent anthologies still turn up, along with independent chillers and oddities like Horror Express, though these days they land in the afternoon or after midnight rather than at 9pm.

Sci-fi, fantasy and action films

Most evenings belong to genre cinema of a specific vintage: Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, and further back, the fantasy adventures Ray Harryhausen animated.
