EntertainmentMore4 is Channel 4’s factual and lifestyle channel: property shows, food formats and the fly-on-the-wall documentaries that would crowd out the main channel’s schedule. It launched on 10 October 2005 and has been free to air since 6 May 2008, when it dropped the subscription requirement it had briefly carried on satellite. Thursday 17 September 2026 opens primetime with two Grand Designs episodes from 6:50pm, then Sandi’s Great Riviera Rail Trip takes the 9pm slot, before two 24 Hours in A&E episodes close the night from 10pm — full listings are below, with channel numbers further down the page.

What’s on More4 today
Thursday’s More4 schedule leans heavily on a handful of returning strands repeated many times over, and daytime is almost entirely given over to the same property and food formats as usual.
Overnight, two 24 Hours in A&E episodes carry things through to the High Street shopping strand from 3:45am.
Four in a Bed then runs five episodes back to back from 8:55am, Come Dine with Me follows with five more through to 2:15pm, and a further five Four in a Bed episodes fill the afternoon, before two Car S.O.S. episodes run into tonight’s primetime. See below.
More4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule
Here’s the More4 primetime line-up for tonight, Thursday 17 September 2026.
Grand Designs — More4, 6:50pm and 7:55pm
Two episodes open primetime. The 6:50pm edition follows a Bolton bricklayer building an ambitious timber-framed home on a £350,000 budget, battling weather delays and a tightening budget (series 17, episode 5); the 7:55pm repeat has Kevin McCloud revisiting a self-builder who retired to a contemporary house in southern Spain (series 13, episode 10).
Sandi’s Great Riviera Rail Trip — More4, 9pm
Sandi Toksvig travels the French Riviera coastline from Marseille to Saint-Tropez, digging into the area’s history of visiting royalty and artists (series 1, episode 1).
24 Hours in A&E — More4, 10pm and 11:05pm
Two more episodes close the night. The 10pm edition includes a teenager needing brain surgery and a young gymnast with a wrist injury (series 18, episode 15); the 11:05pm follow-up covers a stroke patient and a child with a suspected neck injury from a playground fall (series 18, episode 16).
What kind of shows are on More4
Fly-on-the-wall documentary
This is the strand More4 is known for. 24 Hours in A&E and 999: On the Front Line both use the same method: fixed cameras, real emergencies, no reconstructions. Neither has changed that formula in over a decade of running.
Property and food formats
A Place in the Sun and Come Dine with Me anchor the daytime and early-evening schedule. One is about the fantasy of starting again somewhere warmer; the other is about strangers cooking for each other and being far too honest about the results. Four in a Bed does the same job for the B&B trade. Between them they account for most of what More4 broadcasts before 6pm.
Imported drama and classic comedy
More4 also fills gaps with imported crime drama, a fair amount of Nordic noir, and repeats from Channel 4’s own sitcom back-catalogue. It’s schedule filler between the factual strands rather than anything the channel commissions for itself.
More4 leans harder on returning formats than almost any channel on Freeview. Over 48 days we counted Four in a Bed 437 times here — an average of nine showings a day — from a run of 39 distinct programmes. See our study of repeats on UK television for the full channel-by-channel numbers.
How to watch More4
Channel numbers
Here’s where to find More4 across the main UK television platforms:
| Platform | Channel |
|---|---|
| Freeview | 18 |
| Sky (England, Wales, NI) | 136 |
| Sky (Scotland) | 137 |
| Virgin Media | 147 |
| Virgin Media +1 | 347 |
| Freesat | 124 |
More4 is free on all of the above, with no subscription required.
Streaming online
More4 streams live and free at channel4.com/now/m4 and via the Channel 4 app on smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and PlayStation. You’ll need a free Channel 4 account, which costs nothing to set up. Recent episodes of most More4 shows are also available to watch on demand through Channel 4’s streaming platform shortly after broadcast.
More4 +1 and sister channels
More4 +1 runs the schedule an hour behind on Virgin Media, channel 347, but was withdrawn from Freeview back in June 2022. If you miss the start of something on Freeview, the Channel 4 on-demand service is the more reliable way to catch up.
More4 sits alongside Channel 4’s other free channels: the main Channel 4 service, E4 (entertainment and US imports), Film4 (movies) and 4seven (catch-up repeats).
Frequently asked questions
What’s on More4 tonight?
Two Grand Designs episodes open primetime from 6:50pm, then Sandi’s Great Riviera Rail Trip takes the 9pm slot, and two 24 Hours in A&E episodes close the night from 10pm. No film on More4 tonight. Full times are in the schedule table above.
What time do the main documentaries start on More4?
More4’s documentary strands usually sit between 9pm and 11pm, after the property shows have had the earlier part of the evening. A new series launch or a one-off special can push that earlier, so check the on-screen guide if the evening looks different from usual.
Is More4 free to watch?
Yes, completely free on Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat, with advertising breaks but no subscription fee.
Can I watch More4 online for free?
Yes. It streams live at channel4.com/now/m4 and through the Channel 4 app; you’ll need a free Channel 4 account. Most recent episodes also appear on demand shortly after broadcast.
Verdict
More4 doesn’t try to be flashy, and that’s the point. It’s where Channel 4 parks programming that works without gimmicks: a B&B owner docking marks over a soggy fry-up, or a family showing off a self-build years in the making. Today’s daytime leans hard on that formula, with Four in a Bed and Come Dine with Me running fifteen episodes between them before Car S.O.S. and primetime even arrive.
Primetime has a clearer shape than usual: two Grand Designs episodes lead into Sandi’s Great Riviera Rail Trip at 9pm, and the night closes on a further pair of 24 Hours in A&E episodes from 10pm. It’s a solid evening for anyone after factual TV, without one single stand-out event.
