Tonight at a Glance 6 programmes · 6pm–1am

More4 is Channel 4’s factual and lifestyle channel: property shows, food formats and the fly-on-the-wall documentaries that would crowd out the main channel’s schedule. It launched on 10 October 2005 and has been free to air since 6 May 2008, when it dropped the subscription requirement it had briefly carried on satellite. Friday’s full listings are below, with channel numbers further down the page.

What’s on More4 today

Friday’s More4 schedule runs to 28 slots built from a dozen different programmes, with two long Four in a Bed blocks doing most of the heavy lifting before the evening turns over to cars, a self-build and back-to-back documentary.

Overnight opens with 999: On the Front Line just after midnight, then two editions of 24 Hours in A&E from 1:15am, The Perfect Pitch at 3:25am and a long stretch of Discover Must Have Ideas: Shopping carrying the channel through to breakfast. Find It, Fix It, Flog It closes out the morning at 8:55am.

Four in a Bed then runs in two separate five-episode blocks rather than one long stretch. The first fills the late morning from 10am and reaches its own payment day at 12:10pm. Five episodes of Come Dine with Me follow from 12:40pm, before a second Four in a Bed run takes over from 3:20pm and closes on its own payment-day episode at 5:20pm. Car S.O.S picks up straight after and runs the schedule into the primetime line-up below.

More4 tonight — primetime and the evening schedule

Here’s the More4 primetime line-up for tonight, Friday 28 August 2026.

Car S.O.S — More4, 5:50pm

Mechanics Fuzz Townshend and Tim Shaw open the evening with a 1974 Mk 1 Ford Capri rebuild (series 6, episode 10) — the first of two Car S.O.S episodes back to back tonight, though they come from different series runs rather than a matched pair.

Car S.O.S — More4, 6:50pm

Straight after, the pair turn to a 1997 Lotus Elise belonging to a cancer patient (series 7, episode 3). Different series from the hour before it despite sitting back to back in the schedule.

Grand Designs — More4, 7:55pm

Grand Designs takes the 7:55pm slot for a self-build in County Down, where Micah Jones sets about converting an old agricultural building into a home (series 18, episode 3).

Carpe Diem — More4, 9pm

More4’s Walter Presents slot goes to Carpe Diem, a subtitled French crime drama now on its fourth episode rather than the launch its own billing suggests. A young gymnast under suspicion for stealing a prized Napoleon death mask admits to the theft, but not to the killing that follows it.

24 Hours in A&E — More4, 10:05pm

24 Hours in A&E opens its two-episode close to the night at 10:05pm, treating a 13-year-old brought in after a bike collision (series 10, episode 23).

24 Hours in A&E — More4, 11:10pm

The second instalment follows at 11:10pm, this time a 75-year-old patient with a dangerously fast heart rate (series 10, episode 22) — episode 23 before episode 22, so the pair run out of their usual order tonight.

What kind of shows are on More4

Fly-on-the-wall documentary

This is the strand More4 is known for. 24 Hours in A&E and 999: On the Front Line both use the same method: fixed cameras, real emergencies, no reconstructions. Neither has changed that formula in over a decade of running.

Property and food formats

A Place in the Sun and Come Dine with Me anchor the daytime and early-evening schedule. One is about the fantasy of starting again somewhere warmer; the other is about strangers cooking for each other and being far too honest about the results. Four in a Bed does the same job for the B&B trade. Between them they account for most of what More4 broadcasts before 6pm.

Imported drama and classic comedy

More4 also fills gaps with imported crime drama, a fair amount of Nordic noir, and repeats from Channel 4’s own sitcom back-catalogue. It’s schedule filler between the factual strands rather than anything the channel commissions for itself.

How to watch More4

Channel numbers

Here’s where to find More4 across the main UK television platforms:

Platform Channel
Freeview 18
Sky (England, Wales, NI) 136
Sky (Scotland) 137
Virgin Media 147
Virgin Media +1 347
Freesat 124

More4 is free on all of the above, with no subscription required.

Streaming online

More4 streams live and free at channel4.com/now/m4 and via the Channel 4 app on smart TVs, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and PlayStation. You’ll need a free Channel 4 account, which costs nothing to set up. Recent episodes of most More4 shows are also available to watch on demand through Channel 4’s streaming platform shortly after broadcast.

More4 +1 and sister channels

More4 +1 runs the schedule an hour behind on Virgin Media, channel 347, but was withdrawn from Freeview back in June 2022. If you miss the start of something on Freeview, the Channel 4 on-demand service is the more reliable way to catch up.

More4 sits alongside Channel 4’s other free channels: the main Channel 4 service, E4 (entertainment and US imports), Film4 (movies) and 4seven (catch-up repeats).

Frequently asked questions

What’s on More4 tonight?

Tonight, Friday 28 August 2026, Car S.O.S opens the evening with two restorations from 5:50pm — a Ford Capri Mk1 followed by a Lotus Elise, from different series runs — Grand Designs follows at 7:55pm, and Carpe Diem takes the 9pm hour with its fourth episode. Two editions of 24 Hours in A&E close the night at 10:05pm and 11:10pm, running out of their usual episode order. There’s no film on More4 tonight. Full times are in the schedule table above.

What time do the main documentaries start on More4?

More4’s documentary strands usually sit between 9pm and 11pm, after the property shows have had the earlier part of the evening. A new series launch or a one-off special can push that earlier, so check the on-screen guide if the evening looks different from usual.

Is More4 free to watch?

Yes, completely free on Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat, with advertising breaks but no subscription fee.

Can I watch More4 online for free?

Yes. It streams live at channel4.com/now/m4 and through the Channel 4 app; you’ll need a free Channel 4 account. Most recent episodes also appear on demand shortly after broadcast.

Verdict

More4 doesn’t try to be flashy, and that’s the point. It’s where Channel 4 parks programming that works without gimmicks: a B&B owner docking marks over a soggy fry-up, or two mechanics coaxing a rusting classic back onto the road. The daytime schedule leans on the same recycled formats every day, and Friday is no exception — a dozen unique titles fill 28 slots, with Four in a Bed alone running through two separate five-episode blocks either side of Come Dine with Me.

Tonight’s primetime keeps the channel’s factual identity front and centre: Car S.O.S runs two restorations from 5:50pm — different series rather than a matched pair — taking most of the 6pm hour before Grand Designs follows a self-build in County Down at 7:55pm. Carpe Diem holds the 9pm slot with its fourth episode, not the launch its own billing implies, before 24 Hours in A&E closes the night with two editions at 10:05pm and 11:10pm that run out of sequence, episode 23 before episode 22. No film tonight, just five hours of the factual and drama mix More4 does best.

TV Radar Team is the byline on TV Radar's automatically generated TV guides — covering BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and beyond. Each evening's schedule is built from the published listings (titles, start times, run lengths and episode numbers) and checked against our listings data before publication, so you can decide in two minutes what to record and what to skip. These guides are generated automatically rather than written by hand; a human editor spot-checks them, but not every page is read before it goes live. Based in London, updated every day.
