On ITV1 it is England in Croatia from 4.15pm and The Voice UK at 8.50pm, while Scotland are away on BBC Two at 7.30pm. BBC Four closes out Paris Police 1910 with a double bill. EastEnders isn’t on.

Page Contents

Quick Picks: Tonight’s Best

  • Strictly Come Dancing BBC One, 6.15pm. Movie Week for all 15 couples.
  • Croatia v England ITV1, 4.15pm. Kick-off is at 5pm.
  • The Voice UK ITV1, 8.50pm. The last of the blind auditions.
  • Marble Hall Murders BBC One, 9.35pm. Two mysteries, one episode.
  • EastEnders is not on tonight. It returns Monday at 7.30pm.

Early Evening

Nations League: Croatia v England – ITV1, 4.15pm

Coverage starts at 4.15pm and the match in Rijeka kicks off at 5pm, with Mark Pougatch hosting alongside Roy Keane and Ian Wright. The sides last met at the World Cup in June, when England won 4-2, so there is already a script. Scotland follow later on BBC Two.

The Celebrity Inner Circle – BBC One, 5.30pm

Episode four of eight. Fatiha El-Ghorri, Will Best, Ashley Storrie, Alex Gray and Samia Longchambon each sit alongside a contestant and try to steer them towards the right calls, while quietly working out who is bluffing about their money. Apollo from Gladiators against a soap actor and three comics is the best mismatch in the format so far. Easy early-evening viewing.

Wilderness with Simon Reeve – BBC Two, 6.30pm

Reeve heads to Mexico’s Sea of Cortez in episode two and dives with sharks, some of them the sort you would rather meet on a screen. He is one of the few presenters who can make a long boat ride feel like an expedition, and this series has been the best travelogue on the channel for a while.

Midsomer Murders – ITV3, 6.10pm

ITV3 opens with The Maid in Splendour, in which a pub barman is killed and Barnaby wonders if the wrong man was targeted. Things That Go Bump in the Night follows at 8.10pm, with an undertaker dead and a village divided over a spiritualist church. Vera is on at 10.10pm.

Blue Planet II – Yesterday, 6pm

Episode two, The Deep, takes David Attenborough to volcanic vents on the sea bed where the water is scalding hot and life carries on regardless. Nine years on, it still looks like footage from another planet. Yesterday then goes to cars, with Bangers & Cash at 8pm and Classic Car Kings at 9pm.

The Repair Shop – Really, 6pm

Really runs three series seven episodes from 6pm, starting with a 125-year-old banjo and moving to Klaus, a Berlin teddy bear dating back 88 years, at 7pm. Quest has series four at 9pm and 10pm, with a newsagent’s clock and a set of bagpipes. Same format, same tears, and it still works.

Ghosts – Dave, 7pm

Dave screens three series two episodes of the BBC sitcom back to back, starting with the viral photograph that tempts Alison and Mike into trying to make money. It is also the series where the ensemble properly takes over from the premise. Not Going Out takes the 9pm slot.

Prime Time

Strictly Come Dancing – BBC One, 6.15pm ⭐

This is the one to watch tonight, and the reason is Movie Week. Fifteen couples get a film theme each, which means costume and concept are doing more of the work than usual. Technique scores in themed weeks tend to be harder to read, so the leaderboard may not mean what it normally does.

The pros also have a group dance in which they dress as the animals from Zootropolis, which is the kind of thing this show does better than anything else on British television. After the results show on Sunday there is a new iPlayer spin-off, Strictly: Lights Up, presented by Tyler West and Abi Clarke, and It Takes Two keeps going on weekdays. Tonight is episode three of series 24. E4 has Gogglebox at 10pm, where the sofas are talking about Strictly too.

Nations League: North Macedonia v Scotland – BBC Two, 7.30pm

Steven Thompson, John Collins and Julie Fleeting front coverage from 7.30pm, with kick-off at 7.45pm. It means both nations’ games are on free-to-air tonight, England at 5pm on ITV1 and Scotland here.

Multi-Coloured Saturdays – BBC Four, 7.30pm

BBC Four’s nostalgia slot. Noel Edmonds looks back over two decades of BBC Saturday morning kids’ television, with old presenters and archive clips, and Swap Shop’s Summer Stocktaking follows at 8.20pm, a compilation from 1981. Anyone who grew up with phone-in chaos on a Saturday morning will want this.

NCIS: Los Angeles – 5USA, 8pm

5USA has the procedural on all night, series seven from 6.05pm to 11pm. At 8pm Kensi and Deeks infiltrate a cult to get to a defence worker who has been brainwashed into handing over secrets. Law & Order: SVU takes over at 10pm.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – ITV2, 8pm

David Yates’s 2009 film (PG) is the sixth in the series. Harry finds a textbook covered in someone else’s handwriting, and Draco is clearly up to something. It is the film where the franchise slows down and lets the teenagers be teenagers, and it is better for it. ITV2 started the evening with Order of the Phoenix at 5.20pm.

The Voice UK – ITV1, 8.50pm

Series 14, episode six, and the last blind auditions. Emma Willis hosts, and Kelly Rowland, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones all have last chances to fill their teams. Among those auditioning is Regan Preece, a rugby-playing teenager from Swansea whose mum Shirley got to the knockouts a decade ago. Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening follows at 10.05pm.

Wisdom of the Crowd – BBC One, 8.50pm

John Bishop hosts episode three of eight of this new studio game, in which individual players try to beat the combined guesses of a studio crowd, with a prize pot at stake. It has found its pace over three weeks, though the rules still need a whiteboard.

Buckingham Palace: A Year in the Life – Channel 5, 8.50pm

Episode three of four is about spring at the palace: the gardens, what the King likes to eat at that time of year, the VE Day commemoration and the job of putting 500 historic clocks forward an hour for summer time. Channel 5 also has Zara and Mike Tindall at 6pm and Princess Anne at 7.20pm, then Meghan & Harry: Where Did the Money Go? at 10.20pm.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle – Channel 4, 9pm

Matthew Vaughn’s 2017 sequel brings back Taron Egerton as Eggsy, adds Julianne Moore as a villain with a retro-diner hideout and gives Elton John a role as himself. It is bigger, louder and sillier than the first film, and much less sharp. Channel 4 has Sandi Toksvig’s Hidden Wonders at 7pm and Copshop at 11.45pm.

Die Hard 2 – Film4, 9pm

Bruce Willis is waiting at Washington’s Dulles Airport when ex-military mercenaries take over the airport systems to spring a drug baron. Renny Harlin’s 1990 sequel is a fair imitation of the original, which is not nothing. Film4 also has Taxi at 7.10pm and The Fury at 11.25pm. Legend has Steven Seagal in Contract to Kill at 9pm and GREAT! Movies has Liam Neeson in The Ice Road at 9.06pm.

Paris Police 1910 – BBC Four, 9.10pm

The series ends with a double bill, episode five at 9.10pm and the finale at 10.05pm. Meg Steinheil is on remand on suspicion of killing her mother and husband, and then her trial becomes a public spectacle, and the defence springs a witness who claims a part in the killings. The real Steinheil was acquitted in 1909.

Marble Hall Murders – BBC One, 9.35pm

Episode two of six. Lesley Manville’s Susan Ryeland has two cases open at once: the hidden history of the Crace family in the present day and, in the book she is editing, Atticus Pünd’s questions for the Chalfont household. This week Susan finds a reason to suspect Miriam Crace was murdered. The fun is spotting where the novel and the real-life story echo each other.

Wallander – Drama, 9pm

Series three, episode three, Before the Frost: Linda Wallander’s friend turns to him for help and then vanishes. Kenneth Branagh’s gloomy detective is still the standard for Nordic noir played in English. Drama opens at 7pm with the series three premiere of The Brokenwood Mysteries, a Kiwi crime drama that opens with a murder victim beneath an oversized foam spider.

Elvis Presley: Aloha From Hawaii – Sky Arts, 9.20pm

Sky Arts gives the whole evening to Elvis. Classic Albums on his debut album is at 7pm, Elvis ’56 Special at 8pm, the Honolulu concert with Suspicious Minds and Burning Love at 9.20pm, and Tortured Soul at 11pm. Aloha From Hawaii went out worldwide by satellite in 1973. Still the most famous jumpsuit in music.

Late Night

Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening – ITV1, 10.05pm

Series two, episode five. Robbie Savage, Helen Flanagan and Tayce bring relatives along to play for charity. Mostly it works because relatives are happy to be rude about each other on air. English Football League Highlights follow at 11.30pm.

Vera – ITV3, 10.10pm

Series ten, episode two, Parent Not Expected. Brenda Blethyn’s DCI Vera Stanhope investigates after a teenage boy’s body is found near a salmon farm, and two very different families get dragged into the case. For something real, More4 has 24 Hours in A&E twice from 9pm.

Kill – BBC Four, 10.50pm

A 2023 Hindi-language action film (English subtitles) in which armed criminals take over a passenger train. It carries warnings for graphic violence and strong language, and it is one of the grittier things BBC Four has put out in its late slot. On BBC One, I Give It a Year starts at 10.50pm if you want something lighter.

Sport

Two live Nations League matches are on free-to-air: England at Croatia on ITV1 from 4.15pm with a 5pm kick-off, and North Macedonia against Scotland on BBC Two from 7.30pm, kick-off at 7.45pm. Earlier, Match of the Day Live showed Manchester United against Liverpool in the Women’s Super League at 1.15pm on BBC One, and ITV Racing was at Ascot, Newmarket and Redcar from 12.45pm.

The Super League Grand Final is at Old Trafford on Sky Sports Main Event, with a 6pm kick-off. There is no Match of the Day tonight, but ITV4 has English Football League Highlights at 9.15pm and ITV1 repeats them at 11.30pm.

TV Radar Team is the byline on TV Radar's automatically generated TV guides — covering BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and beyond. Each evening's schedule is built from the published listings (titles, start times, run lengths and episode numbers) and checked against our listings data before publication, so you can decide in two minutes what to record and what to skip. These guides are generated automatically rather than written by hand; a human editor spot-checks them, but not every page is read before it goes live. Based in London, updated every day.
