E4 is Channel 4’s younger-skewing entertainment channel: American sitcom reruns through the day, reality formats after dark, and the Hollyoaks first-look Monday to Wednesday at 7pm. Wednesday 16 September 2026 has Hollyoaks in its usual slot, the last of the week’s three first-look episodes. Overnight opens with a Gogglebox repeat just after midnight, then First Dates, a Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA rerun and Below Deck Down Under carry the small hours before a run of Simpsons, Goldbergs and Brooklyn Nine-Nine episodes fill the gap to breakfast. Two Hollyoaks repeats at 6am and 6:30am get the day’s episode count up to date ahead of tonight’s new instalment, followed by Couples Come Dine with Me and a Ramsay’s Hotel Hell double bill.

America’s Funniest Home Videos and a Below Deck Down Under repeat take the late morning. The Simpsons opens the afternoon with four episodes back to back, before The Goldbergs and a four-episode run of Modern Family carry through to early evening, when The Simpsons returns for another four editions running up to primetime.

Peralta and Santiago’s long-running arrest bet finally reaches its conclusion (series 1, episode 13).

Below Deck Down Under — E4, 8pm

New episode, and a different one from the rerun sitting earlier in today’s schedule. The crew bank a record tip and head out to celebrate, and it unravels the way it tends to on this show: a couple of rejections and one game nobody should have suggested sour the mood before the night’s out.

Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA — E4, 9pm

Gordon Ramsay heads to Chicago for Borelli’s Pizzeria, where slow service and an inexperienced kitchen turn out to be the smaller half of the problem — he gets drawn into something more personal here too, by the programme’s own account. E4’s listing describes this as a brand new series; the schedule metadata elsewhere on this page logs it under an existing season number, so that “brand new” claim is worth treating with some caution until the run makes plain whether it’s a genuine relaunch or simply this season’s next stop. Either way, it’s the channel’s headline slot tonight.

Gogglebox — E4, 10pm

The sofa regulars react to the same week of telly the rest of the country has just sat through, series 17 rolling on into its eighth episode. It’s the calmest hour of E4’s evening by some distance after the reality-format run that precedes it.

Married at First Sight Australia is E4’s most-watched acquisition and the one that reorders the whole schedule when a series is on. Three or four episodes a week, strangers paired off by “experts”, married at first meeting, then sat at a dinner party until somebody says the unforgivable thing. The UK version plays much quieter. Its couples absorb the pressure rather than detonate at the table, which is more realistic and considerably less watchable.

Celebs Go Dating has been on E4 since 2016 and has never changed shape: two relationship coaches, currently Paul C. Brunson and Anna Williamson, a handful of celebrity clients, and dates with members of the public.

Soap

Hollyoaks has been on Channel 4 since 1995 and in E4’s first-look slot long enough that most viewers under 35 have never known it any other way. It takes on the heavy issue storylines soaps go in for, mental health and addiction and the rest, while keeping the pace quick and the cast young.

US comedy

The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family anchor daytime, and all three sit on Channel 4’s streaming service on demand. The Simpsons is the exception to everything. E4 holds so much of it that a single day can jump across two decades of the show without anyone at the channel appearing to mind.

E4 +1, E4 Extra and the Channel 4 family

E4 +1 on Freeview 30 is a straight one-hour timeshift, so 7pm here is 8pm there.

E4 Extra is the sister channel for repeats and extra runs of E4’s biggest shows. It launched in 2022 in the slot 4Music vacated, and sits on Freeview 31 and Sky 139.

Both sit in the wider Channel 4 family alongside the main channel, More4 for factual and Film4 for cinema. All of them are commercially funded. Channel 4 is publicly owned but takes no licence fee money and no government subsidy, a distinction worth remembering the next time somebody complains about the adverts.

Wednesday’s primetime is the busiest shape E4 runs all week. Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA is the pick at 9pm regardless of how the “brand new series” claim shakes out, mostly because Ramsay in a failing pizzeria remains reliable television even on a rerun. Below Deck Down Under at 8pm does enough to earn its hour — a record tip and the fallout from one bad decision on a night out give the crew plenty to work with. Brooklyn Nine-Nine at 7:30pm is still sharper than its usual daytime rotation slot would suggest. Gogglebox and First Dates close the night from 10pm, a shorter run than some evenings but a settled one.

Daytime keeps to the channel’s usual habits: two Hollyoaks catch-up repeats open the morning, then a Ramsay’s Hotel Hell double and America’s Funniest Home Videos carry into a long Simpsons-and-Modern-Family afternoon.
