Peter Bowles’ resident magistrate Yeates and his cousin Basil fear their careers are finished after getting caught up in a police raid, one of the gentler farces in this adaptation of Somerville and Ross’s stories about English rule in 1890s west Cork.

“Some 38th Parallels”, from the show’s fourth season. Alan Alda’s Hawkeye Pierce and the rest of the 4077th’s surgical team carry on their usual balancing act between gallows humour and battlefield surgery.

Straight on with “The Novocaine Mutiny”, built around a court-martial and a dental scare, and one of this run’s more frequently repeated episodes.

Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons and Highway to Heaven carry the daytime hours, and two of the three are largely Michael Landon’s doing.
