More4 is Channel 4’s factual and lifestyle channel: property shows, food formats and the fly-on-the-wall documentaries that would crowd out the main channel’s schedule. It launched on 10 October 2005 and has been free to air since 6 May 2008, when it dropped the subscription requirement it had briefly carried on satellite. What’s on More4 today

Thursday’s More4 schedule runs to 28 slots built from a handful of unique programmes, and daytime is almost entirely given over to the same property/format strands as usual: Four in a Bed and Come Dine with Me carrying the morning into the afternoon.

Overnight, two 24 Hours in A&E episodes take the schedule from just after midnight, then 999: On the Front Line and A Place in the Sun fill the small hours before the High Street shopping strand takes over from around 4am. Four in a Bed restarts the proper schedule at 8:55am with five episodes running through to 11:35am.

Come Dine with Me takes over with five episodes through to 2:15pm, when Four in a Bed returns for a further five-episode run ending at 4:20pm. Car S.O.S. airs twice in the early evening before Grand Designs picks up the schedule the moment it ends. See below.

Sandi’s Ireland: A Literary Journey — More4, 9pm

Sandi Toksvig’s two-part series about Ireland’s literary heritage reaches its conclusion tonight (series 1, episode 2). The feed labels this “New”, and calls it a brand new series in its own synopsis, but that’s not accurate: part one aired on More4 a week earlier, on 3 September, so tonight closes the story rather than opening it.

24 Hours in A&E — More4, 10pm-11:05pm

Two more 24 Hours in A&E episodes close the night, series 17 episode 5 at 10pm and episode 7 at 11:05pm.

Fly-on-the-wall documentary

This is the strand More4 is known for. 24 Hours in A&E and 999: On the Front Line both use the same method: fixed cameras, real emergencies, no reconstructions. Neither has changed that formula in over a decade of running.

Property and food formats

A Place in the Sun and Come Dine with Me anchor the daytime and early-evening schedule. One is about the fantasy of starting again somewhere warmer; the other is about strangers cooking for each other and being far too honest about the results. Four in a Bed does the same job for the B&B trade. Between them they account for most of what More4 broadcasts before 6pm.

Imported drama and classic comedy

More4 also fills gaps with imported crime drama, a fair amount of Nordic noir, and repeats from Channel 4’s own sitcom back-catalogue. It’s schedule filler between the factual strands rather than anything the channel commissions for itself.
