It’s broad multiplex action rather than anything faithful to the games’ tone, with globe-trotting stunts doing most of the work. Fine viewing if you don’t expect it to be anything more than that.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry — Film4, 9pm

Jim Broadbent plays a retired man who sets out to post a letter and instead decides to walk the length of England to visit a dying friend, convinced the journey itself might keep her alive. Penelope Wilton co-stars as his wife, left behind to make sense of his sudden disappearance. Adapted from Rachel Joyce’s novel, it’s a quiet, unhurried film that trusts its two leads far more than it trusts incident, and it’s the pick of tonight’s three.

Jojo Rabbit — Film4, 11:10pm

Taika Waititi directs and co-stars as an imaginary, buffoonish version of Hitler who exists only in the head of a lonely Hitler Youth boy, played by Roman Griffin Davis. The satire turns serious once the boy discovers his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic, and the film’s willingness to sit in that gap between comedy and grief is what’s kept it talked about since its 2019 release. Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell round out the cast.

Daytime is mostly the same forty-odd Hollywood titles on rotation, and the ad breaks mid-film wear thin some nights.

Tonight leans more literary than usual for a Tuesday. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry at 9pm is the pick of the three, a gentle character piece built around Jim Broadbent that doesn’t get much of an airing on terrestrial television. Uncharted is comfortable multiplex filler, and Jojo Rabbit’s satire holds up better than the premise suggests on paper. None is a Film4 Productions title. Daytime keeps to the channel’s classic-film habit, four older titles with no single centrepiece.
