More4 is Channel 4’s factual and lifestyle channel: property shows, food formats and the fly-on-the-wall documentaries that would crowd out the main channel’s schedule. It launched on 10 October 2005 and has been free to air since 6 May 2008, when it dropped the subscription requirement it had briefly carried on satellite. What’s on More4 today

Saturday’s More4 schedule runs to 28 slots built from a handful of unique programmes, and daytime is almost entirely given over to the same two property/format strands as usual: two runs of Four in a Bed either side of a full run of Come Dine with Me and A Place in the Sun.

Overnight, 999: On the Front Line takes the 12:15am slot (series 7, episode 1), then two episodes of 24 Hours in A&E follow, from series 12 and series 13 respectively — different runs, not a matched pair. Teleshopping and shopping strands fill most of the rest of the night before Four in a Bed restarts the proper schedule at 8:55am.

Five Four in a Bed episodes from series 13 run through the morning to 11:35am, when three A Place in the Sun episodes take over. Five Come Dine with Me episodes fill mid-afternoon from 2:40pm, then Four in a Bed returns for a second run of five, series 2 this time, from 5:20pm through to 8pm — a run more than a decade older than the morning’s. Griff’s Canadian Adventure — More4, 8pm

Griff Rhys Jones heads into Manitoba’s wilderness for this instalment, a gentler travelogue slot between the format shows and the night’s documentary block.

24 Hours in A&E — More4, 9pm and 10pm

Two editions back to back, from series 13, cameras fixed on the emergency department as a teenager’s football injury and a high-speed crash both come through the doors.

999: On the Front Line — More4, 11:05pm

Closes the night with a call-out to a hotel disturbance needing two emergency services at once.

Fly-on-the-wall documentary

This is the strand More4 is known for. 24 Hours in A&E and 999: On the Front Line both use the same method: fixed cameras, real emergencies, no reconstructions. Neither has changed that formula in over a decade of running.

Property and food formats

A Place in the Sun and Come Dine with Me anchor the daytime and early-evening schedule. One is about the fantasy of starting again somewhere warmer; the other is about strangers cooking for each other and being far too honest about the results. Four in a Bed does the same job for the B&B trade. Between them they account for most of what More4 broadcasts before 6pm.

Imported drama and classic comedy

More4 also fills gaps with imported crime drama, a fair amount of Nordic noir, and repeats from Channel 4’s own sitcom back-catalogue. It’s schedule filler between the factual strands rather than anything the channel commissions for itself.

The evening is a straightforward hand-off from format TV to documentary.
