Four films fill the overnight hours: Contract To Kill at 12:51am, Mercenary for Justice at 2:31am, Death Rides a Horse from 4:08am and Hellgate closing out the small hours from 6:10am.

Air Rescue fills the whole of the breakfast slot, six roughly 25-minute editions back to back from 7:43am to 10:11am, following helicopter crews from one call-out to the next. The Proud Rebel, a 1958 western, takes over at 10:11am.

I Almost Married A Serial Killer — GREAT! Movies, 8:07pm

The title oversells it slightly, but this 2019 production plays out as fairly standard Lifetime-style suspense. Krista Allen leads as a woman working out what her fiancé really is, with rather less time to do it in than she’d like.

Escape Plan 3 — GREAT! Movies, 9:46pm

The one recognisable pairing on tonight’s schedule. Sylvester Stallone returns for a second sequel to his prison-break franchise, this time alongside Dave Bautista, in a film with a noticeably bigger budget than anything either side of it.

Cut Bank — GREAT! Movies, 11:26pm

A 2014 Montana-set noir that’s better cast than its slot suggests: Liam Hemsworth, John Malkovich and Billy Bob Thornton are all tangled up in a small town’s cover-up coming apart. Late enough that most viewers will need a recording to actually see it.

Evenings bring newer titles, generally from the last five to twenty years, mostly domestic-menace thrillers with the occasional proper action picture and a recognisable lead.

GREAT! Movies isn’t where it used to be. Here’s where to actually find it now:

Until 4 September 2025 this was an ordinary aerial-only channel on Freeview 50 and Sky 321. GREAT! Mystery has those slots now. Nothing about it costs money, but the broadband requirement is the bit that catches people out, particularly anyone still using an older box.

GREAT! Movies streams free through Great! Player at great-player.com, no account required, with apps for Amazon Fire TV, YouView, and Samsung and LG smart TVs, plus the App Store and Google Play. Alongside the live stream there’s a library of past films, which is how you pick something up after it has aired.

Verdict

The programming hasn’t got worse. The finding of it has. A channel that used to be a couple of button presses away now wants a broadband connection, a Freeview Play box or the Great! Player app, and some willingness to go looking, which is a genuine cost for something whose whole appeal was being there when you flicked past it.

Whether the effort is worth it depends on the night. Tonight leans on the channel’s usual mix of low-budget domestic thrillers rather than a single big picture, with Escape Plan 3’s Stallone/Bautista pairing giving the late slot the only recognisable names of the evening. Nobody is choosing GREAT! Movies over a cinema release, but as undemanding evening viewing it does the job it always has.
