Gogglebox 2026: Cast, Who’s Left and When It’s On Next

Gogglebox is on tonight — Friday 23 October at 9.05pm on Channel 4.

Channel 4’s armchair-critic show films households across Britain watching the week’s television from their own sofas. It has been on since 2013, narrated by Craig Cash since 2016, and runs as two long series a year on Friday nights, usually at 9pm.

This page is rebuilt every day from the published broadcast schedule, so the answer above is the current one rather than whatever was true when it was written.

When is Gogglebox usually on?

Gogglebox belongs to Friday night on Channel 4. New episodes normally go out at 9pm and run for just under an hour with adverts, and Channel 4 +1 shows the same episode an hour later. If something big pushes the schedule about, it tends to move by five or ten minutes rather than to another night.

The show is not on all year, but it is close. It now runs as two long series a year:

  • A spring series, starting in February and running into May. Series 27 went out from 6 February to 22 May 2026, sixteen episodes in all.
  • An autumn series, starting in early September and running towards Christmas. Series 28 began on Friday 4 September 2026.

The gaps between them are filled by Celebrity Gogglebox in the summer, and by repeats. So if you are searching for it in June or January, the regular households are probably on a break rather than gone.

Gogglebox series 28: what is on now

This is the twenty-eighth series since Gogglebox started on 7 March 2013. It is made by Studio Lambert, the production company behind The Traitors, and the format has barely changed in thirteen years: households across Britain watch the week’s television on their own sofas, and the cameras watch them.

Which programmes they react to is the whole point. Each week mixes the big shows everyone is watching with a few unexpected picks that most viewers have never heard of. That mix of the obvious and the obscure is, in our view, why it has lasted. You do not need to have seen the shows they are watching for it to be funny.

Episode 8 is a Stand Up To Cancer edition (more on that below), so the series does not keep a strictly normal run through October.

Gogglebox cast 2026: every household

The cast is large and not every household appears every week, which is why people keep asking whether someone has quietly left. The regulars back for series 28 include:

  • Jenny and Lee, the best friends who have been on since 2014
  • The Malone family, also there since 2014
  • Ellie and Izzi Warner, the sisters, on since 2015
  • Pete and Sophie Sandiford, brother and sister, on since 2017
  • Simon and Jane Minty, who joined in 2021
  • Jake, now with Louis on the sofa beside him

Two new households joined at the start of the series. Sandy and her son Max are from north London; Max, 33, is the first Gogglebox cast member with Down’s syndrome, and he has said he wants to show other learning-disabled people what they can do. Steve and Mark are brothers from Newcastle.

Other long-running households, such as Giles and Mary, Abbie and Georgia, and the Siddiquis, who have been on since the very first series, also count as current cast. A household missing for a few weeks is normal, and on its own it is not a sign that anyone has quit.

Who has left Gogglebox?

The newest departure is Calum, who had sat with Jake since series 26. He left a week into series 28 after moving to Australia with his partner, and Jake’s friend Louis replaced him from the second episode.

Earlier exits that people still search for: Roisin and Joe were not asked back after series 25, and Stephen and Daniel Lustig-Webb, among the longest-serving faces on the show, announced they were leaving in September 2023. Channel 4 rarely says much when a household goes, so we only list departures that have been reported, and we do not guess from absences.

Who narrates Gogglebox?

Craig Cash has done the voiceover since 2016. He took over from Caroline Aherne, who narrated from the very first episode and stepped back shortly before her death that year. The two had worked together on The Royle Family, which suits a show that is basically that sitcom with real people. Cash narrates Celebrity Gogglebox as well.

Gogglebox spin-offs

Celebrity Gogglebox puts famous friends and relatives on the sofa instead. It now fills the summer gap: series 8 ran from 5 June to 17 July 2026 on Channel 4, with old episodes often turning up on E4.

Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer is the yearly charity edition, where celebrities join the regular households. When it airs depends on when Channel 4 holds its Stand Up To Cancer campaign: it went out on 25 October in 2024, but not until December in 2025. In 2026 it is episode 8 of the main series.

Gogglesprogs was the children’s version, with a Christmas special in 2015 and a series in 2016 and 2017. It has not been back since.

Gogglebox Ireland is a separate show, on what is now Virgin Media Television in Ireland, with its own Irish households. It started in 2016 and is not shown on Channel 4.

Where else to watch Gogglebox

Repeats are everywhere. E4 runs older episodes most evenings, often two or three in a row, and 4seven picks up the latest one through the following week. They are not new episodes, so do not mistake an E4 showing for the current series. For the rest of the Friday night line-up see Friday’s TV guide, and for other big shows we track, the TV shows page or when the soaps and big shows are on.

How to watch Gogglebox

On television it is a Channel 4 programme. Online, every episode is on Channel 4 at no cost, and episodes stay there for the usual catch-up window.

Who is in Gogglebox in 2026?

Series 28 brings back long-standing households including Jenny and Lee, Ellie and Izzi Warner, Pete and Sophie Sandiford, Simon and Jane, and the Malone family. Two new households joined in September 2026: Sandy and her son Max from north London, and the Newcastle brothers Steve and Mark.

Who has left Gogglebox?

The most recent exit is Calum, who sat alongside his friend Jake. He left a week into series 28 after moving to Australia, and Jake’s friend Louis took his place from 11 September 2026. Before that, Roisin and Joe were not asked back after series 25.

When is Celebrity Gogglebox on?

It has settled into a summer slot. Series 8 ran on Channel 4 on Friday nights from 5 June to 17 July 2026. No date has been given for series 9 yet, but on recent form it would be the summer of 2027.

Is there a Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer this year?

Yes. Episode 8 of series 28 is a Stand Up To Cancer edition, in which famous faces sit down with some of the regular households. It takes the usual Friday night slot on Channel 4, so it counts as part of the series rather than a separate one-off.

How is Gogglebox filmed?

Each household has two small remote-controlled cameras fixed in the room, operated by a crew working from a temporary control room set up elsewhere in the home. That is why the households can talk freely: nobody is standing behind a camera in front of them.
