FilmFriday 9 October 2026. The Celebrity Traitors sends its players into a team mission on BBC One at 8pm, with Uncloaked at 9.05pm, and the same channel’s Graham Norton sofa fills up later. BBC Two has the best late booking, the horror film Longlegs at 10pm, while Coronation Street on ITV1 deals with a shooting. EastEnders isn’t on, as usual for a Friday.
Quick Picks: Tonight’s Best
- The Celebrity Traitors BBC One, 8pm. A team mission, then Uncloaked at 9.05pm.
- Longlegs BBC Two, 10pm. Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, certificate 15.
- Coronation Street ITV1, 8.30pm. A shooting, after Emmerdale at 8pm.
- Gardeners’ World BBC Two, 8pm. Autumn jobs at Longmeadow.
- EastEnders is not on tonight. It is expected back Monday at 7.30pm.
Early Evening
House of Games – BBC Two, 6pm
Friday means double points, which is the one night the quiz can be turned upside down with a single answer. Stephen Mangan, Shona McGarty, Andi Peters and Nina Wadia play, with Michael Sheen asking the questions in the voice of a man who has been hoarding a joke all week. Strictly: It Takes Two follows at 6.30pm.
Earthquake – Film4, 6.35pm
Los Angeles gets flattened in this 1970s disaster picture, with Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner trying to look composed as the buildings go. It is gloriously over the top and the effects have a wobbly charm that CGI never manages. Film4 follows it with The Green Mile at 9pm.
TOTP: 2000 – BBC Four, 7pm
Two archive editions from May and June 2000, presented by Jayne Middlemiss and Jamie Theakston, with Billie Piper, Bon Jovi and the Charlatans among the acts. They run back to back before TOTP: 1977 at 8pm and TOTP: 1984 at 8.30pm. It is the gentle runway to BBC Four‘s funk evening.
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing – Dave, 7pm
Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse go after perch on the Upper Tamar Lakes, then head out to sea the next day and land something neither of them expected. Nobody on television is better at doing very little for an hour. Dave follows with I’ll Get This at 7.40pm and Would I Lie to You? at 8.20pm.
Shoplifting: Menace on the High Street – BBC One, 7.30pm
A new half-hour in which Clodagh Stenson looks at how shop theft is hitting staff and owners, and at the organised gangs behind a chunk of it. It sits where EastEnders would usually be, which is a sobering swap for a Friday.
Prime Time
The Celebrity Traitors – BBC One, 8pm ⭐
This is episode four, and the celebrities are divided into teams for a mission in testing conditions, which is a smart move, because the Round Table is only half the show. The missions show who panics, who leads and who quietly lets someone else take the blame, and all of that gets fed back into the castle.
The best Traitors episodes are the ones where a harmless task produces a suspicion nobody can shake. A celebrity cast makes that more fun, because people used to being watched are suddenly terrible at hiding anything. Someone will do something that looks innocent on the day and utterly damning by supper.
Uncloaked follows at 9.05pm, with Ed Gamble and guests going through the evidence. It is the better of the two when the main episode ends on a cliffhanger.
Gardeners’ World – BBC Two, 8pm
Monty Don is at Longmeadow cutting back roses, putting the apple crop into store and planting out spring cabbages, before turning to ideas for bulbs. Rachel de Thame looks at wildflowers that help wildlife. Monty has announced that this series will be his last, so it is worth watching with that in mind. It starts at 8.15pm in Wales.
Emmerdale – ITV1, 8pm
The funeral takes place, Robert wants to get something off his chest and a discovery is made. It is the kind of hour in which one person’s confession lands at exactly the wrong moment for everyone else. Looking for what time Emmerdale is on tonight? It is 8pm, with Coronation Street at 8.30pm.
Coronation Street – ITV1, 8.30pm
A shooting changes the street’s night. Police officer Lisa questions David, while Kevin and Ronnie worry the weapon is the same one they lost track of. Elsewhere Kit tells people about his cancer diagnosis. Yes, Coronation Street is on tonight, and this is a heavy one.
George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces: First Home – Channel 4, 8pm
Clarke visits a floating house that began as a shipping container, and a Dutch building that squeezes four homes under one roof. A series of unusual first homes ends tonight, and it has been a reliably cheerful alternative to property shows that treat a mortgage as entertainment. Channel 4 has Gogglebox at 9.05pm.
Doc Martin – ITV3, 8pm
ITV3 screens the finale first, with the Ellinghams’ farewell party that Martin and Louisa struggle to get to, then goes back to the very first episode at 9pm. Starting with the end and then the beginning is an odd order, though it makes a neat double bill for anyone who misses Portwenn.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – E4, 8pm
Tom Cruise and his IMF team race to put together two halves of a key that can control a lethal artificial intelligence. It is long, loud and has a motorbike jump that earns its poster. E4 gives it most of the night.
Six Wives with Lucy Worsley – BBC Two, 9pm
A mix of documentary and drama on Henry VIII’s six queens, starting tonight with Catherine of Aragon. Worsley is a lively guide, and the drama sections stop it feeling like a lecture.
Big Brother: Live Eviction – ITV2, 9pm
AJ Odudu and Will Best recap the day in the house, then announce who is out, with a crowd watching. Eviction nights on ITV2 are noisy and quick, so there is no need to arrive early.
The Green Mile – Film4, 9pm
Tom Hanks as a death-row guard who comes to doubt a gentle prisoner’s guilt, played by Michael Clarke Duncan. Frank Darabont’s Stephen King adaptation is long, and you will feel every hour of it in the right way. Bring tissues.
War – Sky Atlantic, 9pm
A legal drama with Nina Sosanya, Dominic West and Sienna Miller, built around a divorce mediation tonight. It is on a subscription channel and repeats at 2am.
Play for Today: Closing Time – Channel 5, 9.05pm
Channel 5 is running another Play for Today one-off, inspired by Brief Encounter. Ellora Torchia and Antonio Aakeel play a pair who cross paths unexpectedly, but the railway station has become a kebab shop. The setting swap is a neat idea, and an hour is about the right length for a story like this.
Have I Got News for You – BBC One, 9.30pm
Ian Hislop and Paul Merton lead the teams through the week’s headlines, and a Friday after a week of politics does half the work for them. It follows Uncloaked.
Late Night
Longlegs – BBC Two, 10pm
Osgood Perkins’ 2024 horror stars Maika Monroe as a young FBI agent in the 1990s, tracking a serial killer who leaves coded messages at crime scenes. Nicolas Cage plays the killer, and the best thing the film does is keep him half-hidden for as long as it can.
It is slow, strange and genuinely frightening, and it keeps pulling the carpet away. Perkins is the son of Anthony Perkins, which gives the film’s old-school dread an interesting pedigree. Monroe, from It Follows, is the right actor to carry it. Certificate 15.
The Graham Norton Show – BBC One, 10.40pm
Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, co-stars in the new film Wicker, share the sofa with John Malkovich, and Orville Peck plays the music slot. With Colman in the room, the chances of an anecdote derailing the running order are high.
Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande – BBC Four, 10.40pm
The story of a south London funk band from the early 1970s who were overlooked at home, split up, and then found a second life when DJs and hip-hop artists sampled their records. At 10.10pm there is Cymande’s Glastonbury 2025 set from the West Holts stage first. It comes after The Genius of Funk at 9.10pm, so the whole evening makes sense as a set.
GoldenEye – ITV1, 10.45pm
Pierce Brosnan’s first outing as Bond, hunting a stolen space-based weapon, with Sean Bean as the villain and Izabella Scorupco as the programmer. It remains the most enjoyable of the Brosnan films, and the tank chase is still absurd.

Final Verdict
Start with The Celebrity Traitors on BBC One at 8pm, because a team mission is when the game gets interesting. Stay with the channel for Graham Norton if Olivia Colman is in the mood to talk.
The oddest piece of scheduling is Longlegs on BBC Two at 10pm. If you have been putting off a proper scary film, a terrestrial airing without the cinema crowd is as good a moment as any. And if the week has been a lot, Gardeners’ World at 8pm is the cure.
