BBC Two adds a documentary on British Muslim life since 9/11. EastEnders is on at 7.30pm, and Coventry v Newcastle is live on Sky.
Quick Picks: Tonight’s Best

- Pierre Channel 4, 9pm. Episode two of six, with David Harewood.

- EastEnders BBC One, 7.30pm. On tonight, as every Monday to Thursday.
Watch: What’s On TV Tonight
Early Evening
House of Games – BBC Two, 6pm
Chizzy Akudolu, Stephen Bailey, Banjo Beale and Philippa Dunne are the four players for the first game of a new week. It’s a light, quick start to the evening.
Hollyoaks – E4, 7pm
Dee Dee’s attempt to see her teacher after school backfires, and Dodger urges Donny to face his problems. A fresh episode on E4. Our Hollyoaks page has the wider picture.
Cooking with the Stars – ITV1, 7.30pm
Three new celebrities this week: Happy Mondays’ Bez, Scarlett Moffatt and Zara McDermott, each paired with a professional chef. The budget theme gives Emma Willis and Tom Allen something to poke fun at, and I’d back Moffatt to be the most competent in the kitchen.
EastEnders – BBC One, 7.30pm
Yes, it’s on, in its usual Monday to Thursday slot. Our soaps and big shows guide has the weekly pattern.
Mastermind – BBC Two, 7.30pm
Clive Myrie’s black-chair quiz has The Lord of the Rings and the PDC World Darts Championship among tonight’s specialist subjects. Darts questions are a different sport from knowing the sport. BBC Four goes the other way with a 1977 edition at 9pm, followed by Call My Bluff at 9.30pm.
Prime Time
Panorama: Roman Abramovich: How He Hid His Fortune – BBC One, 8pm
Richard Bilton looks at new evidence on how the billionaire’s business empire was built. It’s a single half hour, so it has to stay on one argument.
Emmerdale – ITV1, 8pm
The Dales soap is on at 8pm, ahead of Coronation Street. Both are on ITVX straight after. Our Emmerdale page has the backstory.
Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals – Channel 4, 8pm
Episode three. Jamie Oliver cooks a show-off steak with fried garlic gnocchi “chips”, then a crispy trout on a bed of green vegetables with tomato and tarragon salsa. The gnocchi is the bit worth stealing.
Only Connect – BBC Two, 8pm
Victoria Coren Mitchell’s quiz, where the clue chains still make you shout at the screen. University Challenge follows at 8.30pm, with SOAS and Edinburgh finishing the first round and Amol Rajan asking the questions.
Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley – BBC One, 8.30pm
Episode four of six. Dooley talks to young men who are taking testosterone boosters to look as masculine as possible, and asks what that costs them. She lets them talk, which is why it works.
Coronation Street – ITV1, 8.30pm
The second half of ITV1’s soap double, straight after Emmerdale. Our Coronation Street page has the background.
Time – BBC One, 9pm ⭐
My pick. This is episode two of three, so there isn’t a lot of series left to waste, and the programme doesn’t try to. David Tennant plays custodial manager Bobby Bailey, who is struggling with guilt after a tragedy at the young offender institution. Siobhan Finneran is the chaplain, Marie-Louise O’Dell.
Prison drama can tip into melodrama. Time keeps its eye on the people inside, and a chaplain is a good character for that, since she hears what others would rather not say. It runs until 10pm, and episode one is on iPlayer if you missed it.
The Party – ITV1, 9pm
Episode two of the five-part drama. Martin has to deal with what Ben has just announced, and the old tragedy between them finally comes out. Luke Evans and Tom Cullen play Martin and Ben. Episode three is tomorrow at 9pm, and episode one is on ITVX if you missed it.
Pierre – Channel 4, 9pm
Episode two of six. Pierre is reeling from the death of his client Michael, and something he learns about Michael’s past makes him doubt his own judgement. David Harewood plays the West London duty solicitor. The full series is on Channel 4 streaming, if you want to binge it.
Being Muslim After 9/11 – BBC Two, 9pm
Mobeen Azhar and fellow film-maker Masood Khan revisit their archive and talk to people across the British Muslim community about how life has changed in the 25 years since the 2001 attacks. Yesterday has Tribe with Bruce Parry starting at the same hour, if you want something farther from home.
Michael Palin in the Philippines – Channel 5, 9pm
The last of three. Palin visits an island the Foreign Office tells Britons not to visit, takes in the Budots dance craze, and reflects on how the Philippines has coped with what it has been through. He is at his best when he lets people explain themselves.
Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids – More4, 9pm
The Owens need to get running water to the farm in February weather, with puppy chaos and some new sheep on the side. More4 is the natural home for this wellies-and-mud sort of series.
Have I Got a Bit More News for You – Dave, 9pm
Clive Myrie guest hosts, with journalist Katy Balls and Jo Brand alongside regulars Paul Merton and Ian Hislop. Myrie also hosts Mastermind earlier tonight. Dave also has Would I Lie to You? at 8.20pm.
The King’s Man – Film4, 9pm
The Kingsman prequel, set as the First World War approaches, with Ralph Fiennes as an aristocrat trying to head off a conspiracy. It’s the least tidy film in the series, with a few good set pieces. Film4 has the much better Everything Everywhere All at Once at 11.35pm, and ITV4 has The Take with Idris Elba at 9pm.
Big Brother – ITV2, 9pm
The usual nightly instalment from the house, followed at 10pm by The Group Chat with Kate Lawler and GK Barry. ITV2 has Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win at 7pm.
Late Night
The Sky at Night – BBC Four, 10pm
Maggie Aderin-Pocock talks about her own dyslexia and meets other dyslexic astronomers,. It’s an unusual angle for a programme that is usually about telescopes.
Have I Got News for You – BBC One, 10.40pm
Alex Jones hosts, with Hislop and Merton as captains. It’s the second episode of ten.
Killing Anna – Channel 4, 11.05pm
A documentary film about Annsar Shahhoud, a Syrian academic who invents an online identity, “Anna”, to find and draw out a man linked to the 2013 Tadamon massacre. It’s tense and hard going, and not a late-night watch for everyone.
Everything Everywhere All at Once – Film4, 11.35pm
Michelle Yeoh runs a laundromat and then has to cross the multiverse to save her family. It’s absurd, moving and fast, and it won the Best Picture Oscar. If you can stay up, it’s the best film on Freeview tonight. Drama has the final episode of New Tricks at 10pm, and 5USA has Law & Order: SVU at 10pm and 11pm.
Sport
Coventry City host Newcastle in the Premier League on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, with coverage from 6.30pm and kick-off at 8pm. Our Premier League on TV page and football on TV today list the rest of the week. On Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket, South Africa and Australia are on day four of their men’s Test in Durban from 8am. The NFL game between the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills starts at 1.15am on Sky Sports Main Event. For everything else, see sport on TV today.
