Panorama reporter Darragh MacIntyre steers away from the familiar scandal and focuses instead on the money trail: how a New York financier built up the fortune and the well-connected circle of friends that let him operate unchecked for so long. Names linked to that circle over the years have included Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, both of whom deny any wrongdoing. The film’s real subject, though, is how the funds Epstein accumulated were used to run a trafficking operation that abused hundreds of girls and young women, and how those around him let it continue.

What raises the stakes further is the backdrop: a climate conference gathering in Glasgow turns whatever’s been driving this run into something with consequences well beyond one case. Vigil has always been better at squeezing tension out of confined spaces than most detective dramas manage with open ones, and putting Silva somewhere she genuinely can’t just walk away from plays to exactly that strength. Trigger Point – ITV1, 9pm

Michael Palin narrates the logistics behind one of the more improbable museum loans of the year: getting seventy metres of cloth, nine and a half centuries old, embroidered cloth from Bayeux to Bloomsbury in one piece. It isn’t rolled or folded but wound onto a paravent, a folding screen rigged for exactly this kind of journey, then driven and railed across to London before being unpacked and laid flat for the first time ever, on a table built specifically for the job. Historian Janina Ramirez makes the case for calling it a “mistresspiece” rather than a masterpiece, given it was likely stitched by English nuns who embroidered rather more than the official record usually lets on.

Forever Home – Channel 5, 9pm

New six-part drama adapted from Graham Norton’s novel, and it wastes no time establishing just how dark it intends to get. Robert (Douglas Henshall) makes his two young children promise never to bring their mother up again, furious after she’s run off with his own brother, then packs them off to bed as though that settles it. Twenty years on, they’ve grown into a pair nobody would call likeable, openly cruel to Robert’s second wife Carol (Amy Nuttall), and now pushing their dementia-diagnosed father toward a care home so the house can be sold. There’s something locked in the cellar that suggests their timing isn’t the only problem here. Denise Welch and Kevin Whately also star.

999: What Happened Next – Channel 4, 9pm

Second series of the format that follows an emergency call from the first response through to how it actually resolves, which turns out to matter more than you’d expect for how the stories land. New episode tonight, part of Channel 4’s regular Monday factual crime run.

Late Night

Colin from Accounts – BBC Two, 10pm

Tonight’s episode strips the format right back to a single long dinner between Gordon and Ashley, working through three years of unfinished business in one sitting rather than doling it out across the season. The pull between them is obvious and mutual, but so is the gravity of their actual lives — Gordon’s girlfriend is about to move in, Ashley’s got a boyfriend she describes as “stable” like that’s the whole appeal. The show has always worked because it never pretends this is simple, and this episode is the clearest example yet of why that restraint pays off.

The Sky at Night – BBC Four, 10pm
