Prime Time

The Great British Sewing Bee – BBC One, 8pm

The semi-final, and it’s a properly nasty set of challenges. First a plant-based leather jacket made entirely from a pattern — Esme Young mentions she owned a real one decades ago for motorbike riding, which tells you how long “pleather” has actually been around. Then a man’s shirt has to be transformed into a wedding-guest outfit, and finally a made-to-measure little black dress that leaves nowhere to hide mistakes. Some of the four remaining sewers play it safe, some overreach badly, and Grant and Young spot the difference from across the room. Sophie Willan presents.

Saving Lives at Sea – BBC Two, 8pm

Three separate rescues tonight. An angler on Hayling Island gets stuck fast in the mud as a flood tide rises around him in fading light, two paddleboarders set off from the Pembrokeshire coast without lifejackets or the ability to swim, and a teenage lifesaver in north Devon turns out to be exactly where he needs to be at exactly the right moment.

To the Manor Born & Keeping Up Appearances – BBC Four, 8pm

Two sitcom repeats back to back on BBC Four — Audrey takes a well-earned holiday in To the Manor Born, then Hyacinth Bucket goes house-hunting in Keeping Up Appearances, presumably somewhere with a bigger drive for the Rolls.

The Dog House – Channel 4, 8pm

More rescue dogs meeting the families hoping to take them home, this week including a Staffy called Ruby who deserves better luck than she’s had so far.

Vera – ITV3, 8pm

A missing teenager turns up dead weeks after she was reported gone, and Vera has to work out whether that gap has destroyed the evidence or accidentally preserved the one clue everyone else overlooked. ITV3 at 8pm.

National Television Awards 2026 – ITV1, 8pm ⭐

This is the reason the soaps have vanished for the night. Joel Dommett hosts the 31st NTAs live from the O2, and it remains the one major British television award actually decided by public vote rather than an industry panel — which is exactly why it can be genuinely unpredictable in a way the BAFTAs never are.

Last year’s ceremony threw up a proper shock: Ant and Dec lost the presenter award for the first time in 24 years, with Gary Lineker taking it instead. Lineker isn’t in the running this year, which reopens the category, and Sir David Attenborough being nominated as a fresh challenger alongside Claudia Winkleman only adds to it. Elsewhere, The Traitors goes up against its own celebrity spin-off in the reality category, and it’s an all-female shortlist for drama performance, with Sheridan Smith among the nominees for I Fought the Law.

Traditional broadcasters have racked up 59 nominations between them against just five for the streaming services, which says something about where the public’s actual viewing habits still sit, awards ceremonies aside. Straight into ITV1’s News at Ten once it wraps at 10.30pm.

Celebrity MasterChef – BBC One, 9pm

Mass catering week, which is where this competition traditionally falls apart for at least one team. Nine celebrities remain, sorted into three groups, and between them they have to get a full banquet in front of 120 people at a Birmingham ballroom — a scale that has nothing in common with plating up for two judges in a studio kitchen. Whichever team pulls it off gets immunity from the next challenge, a solo showstopper back in the regular kitchen. Grace Dent and Giorgio Locatelli judge, and it’s usually obvious within the first ten minutes which team has planned properly and which one is about to have a very bad evening.

Emergency 24/7 – BBC Two, 9pm

Southmead Hospital’s trauma department in Bristol, where nobody has the luxury of an appointment. Tonight brings a young horse rider left paralysed after a fall, and dashcam footage that captures the road accident bringing in a chef whose knee is damaged badly enough that the surgeons genuinely aren’t sure at first whether they can save it. It’s the kind of programme that makes A&E waiting-room small talk feel very trivial afterwards.

The Jury: 14 and on Trial for Murder – Channel 4, 9pm

The final day of evidence in this reconstruction of a real murder trial, built entirely from court transcripts and watched by an ordinary jury whose genuine, unscripted deliberations are the whole point of the exercise. Two brothers stand accused of killing their stepfather, and one juror who’s been nicknamed Miss Flip-Flop by the others still hasn’t settled on a side going into closing arguments. It’s a cleverer format than it sounds on paper — watching real people wrestle with real doubt is far more gripping than a scripted courtroom ever manages. The jury delivers its verdict tomorrow.

The Game – Channel 5, 9pm

Retired detective Huw Miller talks his old colleagues into letting him take serial killer Patrick Harbottle out to the alleged site of his first victim’s grave, with barely any backup and against the loud objections of DS Jenny Atkins and prison officer Jackie Burdett. Everyone involved knows Harbottle is a flight risk and a manipulator of the highest order; Huw just happens to have a private reason of his own for wanting to be there anyway. Robson Green plays the menace so calmly it’s unsettling, and Jason Watkins matches him without ever raising his voice. Penultimate episode on Channel 5 — it wraps up tomorrow.

The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin – BBC Four, 9pm

Two episodes tonight, and the opener is exactly 50 years old. Leonard Rossiter’s Reggie Perrin is a suburban commuter sliding gently toward a breakdown, and the show tracks it through the diminishing letters on his firm’s Sunshine Desserts sign as much as anything he actually says. He copes by firing off increasingly deranged internal memos and quietly loathing every meeting he’s forced to sit through. David Nobbs’s scripts have barely dated, which is either reassuring or depressing depending on your own commute. The second episode widens out to Reggie’s family life.

Johnny Vegas’ Little Shop of Antiques – Quest, 9pm

Last in the series following the comedian’s real Cheshire antiques shop on Quest, as he tries once more to turn a genuine passion for junk into something resembling a viable business.

Late Night

Gogglebox – Channel 4, 10pm

The nation’s sofas react to the week’s television, and tonight that presumably includes some pointed opinions about the awards ceremony airing at the same time on the other side.

Colin from Accounts – BBC Two, 10pm

It’s Gordon’s birthday, Chelsea has taken charge of the arrangements, and the guest list somehow includes Ashley and her boyfriend David along with two returning faces — Meggles, now a determinedly online mum, and brewery worker Brett, who might have finally met someone worth the effort.
