Famous faces hide inside elaborate full-body costumes and sing live, while a panel of celebrity detectives tries to work out who is underneath. Joel Dommett has hosted the ITV1 series since it began in January 2020, and each week the performer voted out is unmasked.

When does The Masked Singer UK 2027 start?
ITV has confirmed that an eighth series is coming in 2027, but as of 17 October 2026 it has not announced a start date. The pattern is very consistent, though. Every series so far has launched between 26 December and 4 January, and the last two both opened on the first Saturday of January on ITV1, with the final in mid-February. If series 8 follows suit, expect the first episode on Saturday 2 January 2027 or close to it. That is an estimate from past schedules, not an ITV announcement, and this page will switch to the real date as soon as it appears in the broadcast schedule.
Who is on the panel?
Joel Dommett returns as host. The four regular panellists, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama and Jonathan Ross, are back too, but for 2027 they have a new name: the Legends.
The big change is a second panel. In late July 2026 ITV revealed that Alan Carr will head a rival team of detectives called the Wild Cards. Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s director of entertainment, reality and daytime, said his wit and energy made him the right fit for the new panel. In August, Stacey Solomon said she would be joining Carr’s team. ITV has not yet published the full Wild Cards line-up or explained exactly how the two panels will compete, so treat anything beyond Carr and Solomon as unconfirmed.
The panel has changed before. Mo Gilligan took over from Ken Jeong for series 2, and Maya Jama replaced Rita Ora from series 6.
Who are the celebrities in The Masked Singer 2027?
None have been revealed, and none will be until they are unmasked on screen. That is the whole point of the show. Press speculation about who might be inside the costumes starts early every year, but it is guesswork, so this page does not list rumoured names. When ITV unveils the costumes, they will be added here.
How the show works
Each celebrity performs live inside a costume that covers them from head to toe. Short clue films, with the speaking voice disguised, give the panel something to work from, and the panel tries to name the person underneath before they are revealed. Each week the two performers with the fewest votes face a sing-off, the panel decides who stays, and the loser takes off their mask. The last three meet in the final.
Series 7 had 12 competing celebrities across eight episodes, plus three extra masks, two of which fronted the masked-band openers. Between episodes, the companion show Unmasked picks over the clues on ITVX.

In the 2026 final Keisha Buchanan beat Ben Shephard (Conkers), with Mica Paris (Toastie) third. Runners-up the year before were Gregory Porter (Dressed Crab) in 2025 and Alex Brooker (Bigfoot) in 2024.
The Masked Singer Christmas special 2026
A 2026 Christmas special has been confirmed for ITV1. Four celebrities compete in festive costumes, all four are unmasked by the end of the night, and Joel Dommett hosts. ITV has not yet said which day it airs.
Recent specials give a good guide. The first went out on Christmas Day 2023 and was won by Ainsley Harriott as Partridge.
